Digsy
Does anyone have a download link for the generic version of CoPilot Live 7 for Windows Mobile? I'm not after a license code or extra maps or a keygen or anything dodgy, just the installation files for the generic version to try on my HTC HD2. I already have a fully bought-and-paid-for Pan European maps version of CoPilot Live 7, Touch Diamond Edition. I have tried installing this on my HD2 but the icons and drop down boxes in the menus appear blank so unless you are strong with The Force you cannot use it. Oddly the actual navigation part seems to work fine if you can actually feel your way to program a destination. The Touch Diamond edition had some tweaks to make it work on the phone's screen, which at the time was a higher res than the norm. I'm wondering if these tweaks are what is messing up the display on my HD. I'm pretty annoyed at ALK right now because they won't supply me with a download link for version 7 now that version 8 is out and HD2 users specifically do not qualify for the cheap upgrade price when moving from version 7 to 8. Hopefully someone out there can help. I've also posted this on xda-developers.com
MrRalphMan
Copilot (7 or 8) is the only Sat Nav program I couldn't get.. I've Tomtom 7, Igo8 or Navigon if you want to give them a try. Still think TT is the best all rounder.
Digsy
Thanks but I'm specifically after CoPilot 7 I'm afraid.
Scott
Is it possible to port TT onto normal windows yet? I'll have a little look for copilot
MrRalphMan
Thanks but I'm specifically after CoPilot 7 I'm afraid. No worries, like the look of it but cannot find a 'copy'. What's the HD2 like?, thinking of getting one to replace my original HD.
Digsy
What's the HD2 like?, thinking of getting one to replace my original HD. It depends in how much exposure you have had to Windows Mobile phones before. I kind of feel like it should be an iPhone contender, but HTC have tried to be too clever for their own good. See my post here.
MrRalphMan
Yeah, had a WM phone (HTC Touch HD) for about a year now. It's currently running the Sense 2.5/WM6.5 ala the HD2.. Love my WM phones as I can program for it (see hdSpeedo ). Does the 1Ghz processor make that much of a difference?
Digsy
Yeah its really really quick. Its the best WM phone on that respect by miles. Mind you it has to be because all the apps remain running in the background unless you kill them using Task Manager. The option to actually kill programs with the "X" button has been removed. I tried installing a third party which gives this option back but it messes up some other things like (oddly) the volume control. The processor is so meaty though that it seems to be able to handle apps running in the background without any issues at all.
MrRalphMan
Have you tried any of the cooked Roms for it?
Digsy
Nope I'm just on the latest official HTC ROM 1.66 I got it from Phones4U rather than through Vodafone. Vodafone's dumb warranty conditions prevent you from applying any patches or ROM upgrades, even the official HTC ones. You have to wait for Voda to release their own version (which they seldom do). MrRalphMan
I'm pretty sure any 'custom' Roms break warrenty, along with the Hard SPL to install em, but they are so much better then stock..
Digsy
Aren't custom ROMs simply collections of popular apps and tweaks? There's only a tweaks that I like to make, but I do those direct in the registry. Any apps I just install seperately. Bit of a pain if you have to do a hard reset, but not the end of the world. I'm on a 24 month contact, too, so I'm not going to do anything to break my warranty.
MrRalphMan
Not just that, they are the beta roms that come out from MS and HTC. Normally have better functionality too.. My HD is running the Sense 2.5 Manila from the HD2.. . It's not the end of the world if it breaks.. Mine did, the screen went, and I was able to reflash to a stock ROM and change the SPL back to normal before I sent it off. Have you looked at Sashimi... It can do all the tweaks/installs after a Hard Reset. I have it setting up my E-mail, WiFi connections, Install my apps and a few other things too.. I need it the amount I flash.. Digsy
Not really got into amything like that yet. To be honest the HD2 is the first phone I've felt is powerful enough to do anything other than just bea phone/pda/satnav. Trouble is I'm not sure what else I want it to be! My search for CoPilot 7 is drawing a complete blank. Two bright sparks on XDA developers sent me links to download version 8 (duh) so I guess I'm gonna have to buy it
MrRalphMan
Have you tried looking at gpsunderground.com? I think they might have the install files there, just couldn't find a gen. If the version you have specificly for the Diamond, might be worth asking over at the forum above to see if they have a solution.
Digsy
I'll have a look. I don't need a keygen. The activation code for the Diamond verson will work with the generic version.
MrRalphMan
If you do torrents and think it's worth a risk, looks like it's here on isohunt.
Digsy
Well after managing to get two ALK customer support people to contradict each other regarding this and having a right old go at them as a result I finally managed to get them to give me a download link for the Touch HD version which - guess what? - works fine on my HD2, so I'm finally a happy customer again. Now I just have to find out if the ship carrying my car kit from Hong Kong has sunk and I might be able to actually navigate somewhere. Were map books this much hassle?
