My rusty hole is leaking - how to plug it?

L400 Delicas are prone to rusting around the sunroof motor and the crystal-lite roof motors - apparently something to do with the support bar being made of a different metal to the roof, and they react in some way where they touch and cause rust.

The L300 is a lot worse, the pics attached are of an L300.

My rusty hole has just started leaking through! It didn't look too bad from outside so I've never thought about fixing it. People on the forum have said they've had it 'professionally' repaired before only for it to break through again within 18 months!

So what can I do myself? Apart from gaffa tape? I'm no good with cars and stuff generally so a magic potion would be brilliant. :D

Otherwise how much is a garage likely to charge for this kind of thing? Is it garage or bodyshop I need to phone? I'm not fussed about colour matching really.

Thats a big hole !!!

I would first consider if the car was really worth fixing if that is the state of the roof.

In answering how to repair, properly you will need an angle grinder, welder, some metal and alot of time to let in some new metal. Anything else is a bodge and will only make it worse over time

Bodges available are to you are fibre glass from the inside then fill the outside. The prime and pain.

Fill with rubber roofinf compound, silicon ect

Tape although I dont think will last more than a few hours.

Grind all the shit out , pack it out with something that will stop those two metals touching , ( a few layers of gaffer tape should suffice ) then use fibreglass matting to pack the rest of hole and bring it slightly proud ...... plenty of sanding later , bit of primer and touch up ...........It'll last for years .......
