Harris25
oh dear what have i done!! Horrible knocking noise coming from under the rocker cover. Obviously i will have to go to a garage just wanted to post see if anyone could give me a heads up on what it might be. It is not a constant noise. setting off is where it is at its worst. It also seem to amplyfy it when turning right on sweeping bends. although at 60mph in 6th gear i could not hear it. any ideas?
adnanshah247
oooooooooo, doesnt sound good.... could it be a misfire? is the car smoking? cutting out? did you get the wheels on then?
Harris25
no misfire, no smoke, no cutting out..
marcAB10
It sounds like you are still driving the car? i'd not advise that for a start. I had a bad knocking noise and it turned out to be a piece of rubber/plastic stuck under a valve... no idea how it ever got in there. Altho mine obviously wouldn't turn over at the time so i doubt it's that.
Matt _Aero top_
i wouldn't be driving it mate especially not at 60 mph
Abz
Missing wheel nut? I had similar horrid sounding knocking noise, turned out I was missing a wheel nut from where my wheels had been off recently to get my suspension measured up. Hope its simple like this! 3LL
does it do it at tick over? if it only does it when your moving check the tire treads.. sounds crazy but wouldnt be the first time i have heard of tread peeling off the tire and slapping the road/arch as the wheel turns! Chris Wilson
Snapped cam if it's not running on all cylinders? Got a feeling that yur "rocker cover" description means something different to you than me.... Are we talking under the engine cam covers, or something to do with the wheel arches? Harris25
under the cam cover. and it was driving home down the motorway. since then ive parked it and left it. yes you can hear it on tick over. all these problems smell of engine rebuild to me

Are we talking under the engine cam covers, or something to do with the wheel arches? got a second opinion off one of my mates who is a bit more mechanically minded than me. he says its the bottom end so probably like the crank. as said above. whats this going to cost me?
