hi everyone

nice looking forums! I thought id make an interesting title. Anyways

my Name is Costas, im 19 and employed as a civil servent for H M Revenue and Customs. Staying in Edinburgh.

I have a highly modified Honda civic which made a small appearance in december and januarys fast car magizine. it used to be a 5 door diesel, but i changed the engine and every part to Ep3 type R.

dont get me wrong i love this car, v-tech sounds absaloutly emense, 5 doors and big boot space means plenty of room for the kids.. (was good before i split with my ex)

and now i want a supra, really really bad. Have done for some time now. so thought id get to know everyone here before i do get one and attend some meets or cruises. and keeping an eye on the supra for sale section.

Heres pics of the civic. enjoy :)

Welcome Costas.

Stick around and I'm sure you'll learn some good stuff about Supras and of course be able to keep an eye on who is selling theirs etc...

At 19, I was driving around in a 1.0L metro, so in a sense you're ahead of me there on the car front :)

thanks u 2.

well ive been studying autotrader/ebay gumtree etc. for past 3 months.

and ive come to the following conclusion.

ill only accept a TT (dont want a NA)

average price for a TT supra, at about 70k miles is between £4-6k

manual about £8k+

so my plan is, to sell my car at about £6000 (it has 30,000 miles on the engine)

buy a TT Auto (cause its cheaper) and convert to manual after ive saved up.

At 19 your budget for a 6 speed conversion will be swallowed by the insurance premium.

The goimg rate for a box is £3000 plus, not including fitting.Save yourself hassle and just wait till you can afford a 6 speed, assuming the insurance doesn't put you off.

Welcome.

ive done quotes, and its the same as my civic, so no harm there. Its one of the main reasons why i want a supra, insurance isnt too bad at all.

oh and the civic is 211 bhp, 0-60 in 6.2 secs.

well.. ive been looking at kerons work, and hes doing NA to TT conversions for 2300 all in. so maybe a cheap NA for about 3-4k and then convert it?

What are you paying for insurance on the civic then? My guess is that you are checking UK TT prices rather than J-Spec imports.

If you are seeing insurance quotes under 2k I would be suprised.

been doing loads of quotes for different supras. i get cheaper premiums cause of 2 years ncb, and civil service for the goverment. on average im getting about £1300 for the year.

which is what im paying for the civic atm.

tiger.co.uk is where im getting the quotes and kwik fit lol.

so im really not sure what the cheaper supra option is.. what route to go down.

I went with an excess of 500 and a yearly mileage of 4k.

No quote from Kwik fit so I'm guessing you may be doing something wrong, either that or I am but past history shows that anyone under the age of 25 struggles to get reasonable insurance quotes, nevermind being under 20.

i got kwik fit independently.

what quote did u get?

Kwik fit wouldn't quote. I went with tiger and here is what came up....

I have no idea where you got the £1200 quote from or what you typed in to get it. For that quote I used my car, registration L5OOP.

I have you as..

Age - 19

Job - Civil Servant

Industry - Customs & Excise

No claims bonus - 2 years

License held - 2 years

Voluntary Excess - £250

Marital Status - Single

Annual Mileage - 4k

Nothing is going to help the quote other than your age and no claims though. Even N/A's are almost as expensive.

Decent NA £3500, TT conversion £2300 manual or £2600 if auto.

If you buy a manual NA the (5 steed) box will have a limited lifespan.

Do the maths, if you want a TT 6 speed, but a TT 6 speed.

Scott and I are NOT trying to piss on your chips, just attempting to rein in your unbridled enthusiasm- for your own good.

Scott, maybe he lives in a "good" postcode?

I live in a fantastic postcode though. My insurance is under £400 with all mods declared etc etc etc.

Whatever he is typing in is wrong. A quote won't go from £6k to £1k on anything other than the car.

I think everyone would agree that 1.2k to insure a MKIV Supra is just impossible.
