Guest Radox
hi I would like to buy an induction kit for my mkIV 1993 twin turbo supra. I found plenty of them on Ebay. Which one should I buy? Bliitz, HKS, K&N or maybe some other??? please help me...
Ric
i wouldn't buy any. Keep the stock airbox, and if anything drop a K+N panel filter into there, you can get them from traders on here, Whifbitz for example Much better solution
Stonkin
If you do choose an induction kit, get the Apexi. It seems to be the best of the bunch

Swampy442
Keep the stock airbox, get a Blitz/ARC/other panel filter.

Gaz6002
If you don't want to keep the stock airbox for some reason, K&N would be the best brand to go for. Apexi are also good. Stay away from HKS, and any cheap shite.

David P
This is the best I found, K&N Extreme, in a Maxair box. This is designed for the TT, but I have tailored it to fit my N/A.

David P
It needed tailoring to fit my N/A, but the sheet alloy construction can be altered simply enough. I got it from Speedforsale, get lots of my parts from there, have a look, lots of nice bits at the lowest prices with excellent service. I have dealt with many of the US traders, and have learnt to always look, or ask here first. http://www.speedforsale.com/index.php?specificmakemodel=Toyota%20Supra%20Twin%20Turbo Edited February 25, 2010 by David P (see edit history)
Ewen
I used to be a tart, and bought a Blitz Sonic. Mucho blingo, great noise, expensive, I felt good. Then one day I woke up an ex-tart, and realised that there were a lot of knowledgeable people on here and most of them advised against aftermarket induction, and that the OEM set up was pretty much optimised for stock twins...power and filtration wise, if not bling. I went back to stock, I felt even better.
Terminator
Stay with the stock air box, you will always draw in ambient temperature air. Induction kits are a waste of money.
David P
I'm confident that the induction modifications have given more power. No hot air gets in, the box is sealed once the bonnet is closed. Since fitting the alloy rad, their is not room for the insulated over rad air intake, so I am fitting a 4" rammed air pipe direct to the box, the system wouldn't pass an OEM induction noise test, yet is a more efficient design, the manifold is also isolated from the hot water, insulated underneath and cold air ventilated above. My Supra's the coolest sucker around. Will find out how well it works when it goes on the rollers.
Ian C
Judging by that picture your cooling is far too effective This is the best I found, K&N Extreme, in a Maxair box. Abz
Sorry for going off topic slightly to the OP, but would you guys recommend going back to a stock airbox if you already have an aftermarket induction kit? I have a HKS one fitted when I brought my Supra, though did have the filter changed when it was at Whifblitz.
Scott
I'd recommend a pair of tights over an HKS one bud.

Ian C
They that bad? *Goes looking for some tights* They are spectacularly poor at actually filtering. This isn't internet lore, this is observed problems. Chris Wilson has seen turbos and piston rings on Skylines eroded because of these, there was a test years ago in the States that highlighted how woeful they were, and you only have to look at the things to see how easy grit grains can sneak through. K&N are the polar opposite, they are extremely impressive filters. I had an Apexi for a while as well which was good, but the level of filtration on a K&N is, well, I'd stick my neck out and say 100%. -Ian
David P
I have read too, that an HKS couldn't filter out particles smaller than pubic lice I ran with one for 6k without the 'gusset trick', and through 3" duct before I installed this. Never go back.

dani_r
What induction kit would be ideal for use with a FMIC? Would the Apexi unit be ok? Or would the pipework need extending to pass the FMIC pipes?
