Cat D recorded/repaired new insurance affected?

I am looking to buy a 10ish yr old Ford KA for my 18yr old daughter as her first car. I have seen some cat D repaired cars and wonder if the fact that they have been recorded/repaired has any affect on the insurance for her. ie,increased premium or engineers report needed.

Because of the limited value of an older car of this type often only very minor damage is sufficient to have a cat D classification by the previous ins. co.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge of this situation?
