Mike
Dubbed The Boneyard, but officially known as the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) facility, this sprawling US airbase is reputed to be the world's largest military aircraft cemetery. Some amazing pictures of this place... I think it would be a cool place to have a wander around Linky

Matt H
This was in the metro yesterday. Amazing and also upsetting to see all that material just sitting there. I know they say it's waiting to be recycled, but with so many planes there is seems it's not being done fast enough. 4000 individual planes.. At those resources. supra_aero
Amazed how many there are. Must be a acres of land as a b52 is a massive plan.
Mike
Amazed how many there are. Must be a acres of land as a b52 is a massive plan. Spread across the huge 2,600 acre site, equivalent in size to 1,430 football pitches, is a collection of over 4,000 retired aircraft including nearly every plane the US armed forces have flown since World War II. Mcgoo
I did a few detachments at Davis-monthan a few years ago. Tucson is a great place. The 'bone-yard' is quite unbelievable to see in the flesh it goes on forever! So many aircraft!

SupraStar 3000
I was reading an article last week about old ww2 era aircraft. After the war apparently you could buy them in the 50s for the same as your typical 2nd hand car. Some p51s and Spitfires that were salvaged by enthusiasts are now worth 3/4 million dollars. Anyone want to go halves on a F14?
Axle
Are they still looking for some land to build Prisons? Or will it remain a graveyard for 'retired' / defected planes? Governments do amuse.
CraigGilchrist
There are loads of other great places like this shown on http://www.artificialowl.net/ including the tank graveyards in Afghanistan, etc. Definitely worth a look if you like this sort of stuff.
