PC Help

Thought I'd ask on here as I'm sure there are a few clued up computer guys who may be able to help. My old laptop packed up so I bought a new one and as explained to me I bought a Hard disk case to get my old photos and music from the removed hard disk. Got past the take ownership stage and all was going well.

I started to transfer it all to my new laptop but stopped it midway so I could transfer the files seperately and now only a handful of photos are visible in each folder even though all of the files are there. Please give me some hope that I have not lost a lot of good piccies :( .

you won't have lost them. Let me get my head around what you have done.

1. bought an empty external hard drive case

2. put the old hard drive in that case

3. plugged it in to the new laptop and started transfering the pictures but stopped it

is this right?

or have you

1. Bought an external hard drive

2. transfered the photos from the old laptop to the external

3. started putting them on the new laptop from the external drive.

Which ever you have done you will not have lost them, even if you delete photos and format your hard drive you can still get them back

Just by cancelling mate. I originally grouped all my music and photos to one file to copy but it said estimated time would be 15 hours so I then tried to transfer my photos and leave the music until tomorrow, now when I look at my photo folders the files are there but a lot of the actual pictures cannot be found.

Are you using Vista by any chance?

Sometimes if you drag and drop a whole big bunch of file at once it will hang and freeze. Happens to my on my external SATA drive too.

Option is to manually copy a few folders over at a time :(

As for the pictures , it should still be in the source. Give your laptop a good reboot mate. See if that helps.

Just a quick update on this. It seemed that the external drive was the trouble as it kept freezing and not showing all files on the new laptop. All photos did show eventually after disconnecting and reconnecting so I did this each time I copied over a file. All photos done just the music left now!! Thanks for the advice guys
