When car sales go wrong...

Just interested to know any bad/interesting experiences anyone has had when selling a car.

I had a guy come round to view my Corrado VR6 the other day, which I had already reduced in price due to no tax or MOT. The guy seemed very keen, and was very happy that I had been completely honest with him in my description. We just started discussing price when we noticed steam filling the interior of the car. The heater matrix had failed suddenly gushing coolant allover the carpet :(

He still bought the car though (at a reduced rate of course)

lol

the saleman had a nightmarew when i was 17 and looking to buy my first car.

it was a gold punto 1.2.

he stared it up so i could have a listen and it sounded good so we went for a drive andagain it was ok.

so he left it running as the batery was low as he talked me through finance packages . with this i look out the window at the car and notice plooms of smoke from under the bonnet, as we rush out to it the engine grinds to a clanking halt and it dies. we then nitice the huuuge pudle of oiul around the front of the car. so i decided to leave it lol.

never found out what actually happend but his face was a picture

Well i currently have my e46 m3 for sale which hasnt missed a beat in the 14 mths i've had it until i sold it on ebay!

The guy came on a train from Sheffield and i picked him up and as he took it for a quick drive round the block the fecking clutch started juddering badly, so sale fell through.

Then last Sat another guy came who i told about the clutch fault and knocked some one off for replacement but my 2 mths old battery died and car wouldn't start!

Had to jump start it but needless to say the sale fell through again!

So right now i am well pee'd off trying to sell and may just put a clutch in as i just fitted a new battery again and keep the car unless someone turns up with a bundle of cash and convince me otherwise.

I went to view a Scirocco MkI that was advertised as silver. When I got there it was half yellow. He'd pressure washed it that morning and blown half the (rather bad) silver re-spray off. He was rather shocked, but we had a good laugh.

Another funny one was a tatty Alfa Sud...whilst on the test drive the entire rear suspension collapsed, and I mean collapsed, totally rotten throughout. 'Its never done that before', he said.

I went to look at a car on Sunday for the misses.... what looked like a nice 2001 1.6 Beetle. Turned up and it was tatty and overpriced although nothing that wasn't solveable if I could get it for the right money...

Asked to see the history, it was due a cambelt change about 6 months ago. I could see from the history that it hadn't been done, didn't want to haggle at this stage and went for a test drive. Turned out ok... however when I got back, the dealers partner (or assistant?) said he'd heard I'd got some concerns about the cambelt and brought the history to me again (obvlisouly blissfully unaware I'd already looked through it).

He told me the cambelt had been changed on the service at 48k so I asked to see the book.... Well, what he'd done was now ticked the "Toothed Timing Belt Change"... (hilariously in a different type of pen) I couldn't believe my eyes and pretty much told him this had happily made my decision very easy and got up and walked out.

I was going to report them to trading standards but thought they probably wouldn't do jacksh*t about it. Made my blood boil I tell you!

i went to buy a mk3 turbo supra price was £1800 it was nice no body marks small tear in the leather drivers seat nothing unusuall , i took it for a test drive it drove lovely,

i left it ticking over while walking around it again and whoose the rad blew steam everywhere !!

the seller swore a few times and then told me it was his sons car who was over seas and he just wanted to get shot of it,

i told him to get the rad done and i would make an offer,

his reply was just give me whatever for it so i offerd him £100 straight away he said make it £300 so we settled on £200 what was the original amount i was going to give him for a deposit,

i went and got a rad off a friend drove it home and it never missed a beat the 2 yrs i had it,
