BMW 8 Series, any experience?

Evening all! I'm thinking about getting the 840c, 4.4 liter V8 with about 280PS. I was wondering if any of you had any experience with these and could give me a few pointers! I'm aware they are gas guzzler with huge tanks, I'm guessing about 20mpg? What are they like to drive and live with?

I've driven one for an hour or so. I like the shape, I liked the interior although its very cramped in the front IMO. I liked the noise it made. Lots of interior toys I'd never need.

It was a little dull to drive, and felt heavy and sluggish on the twisties. Not that fast really. Left me cold. I actually enjoyed driving a ford Cougar (the second of two cars I looked at on the day) more which sounds a bit odd now. I bought my second Mk IV instead....far more exciting to drive, far less complicated and much more fun.

Aaah thanks Ewen, I'm thinking about getting one as a second car, i really fancy something filled with gadgets and a bit more luxury than the Supe for the daily work run! I guess I'll have to take one out!

Lucky lad. I'd consider one as a second car.....but TBH, if I was looking at 800's my heart would have already decided on an old 635 Csi.

When I was a kid we had a red M635csi highline (last of the line 1989) and it was very nice but very thirsty. We have a 4.4 840ci in Estoril blue now and its a really nice car to drive, much more refined than the supra. It chews miles up in comfort and although not as fast as my TT, it certainly shifts with power just about everywhere. Steptronic box is also very good.

I'd agree with all that, in the OP's context of 'second car'.
