Matt H
Bit of a odd thread.. But the word 'used'; as in, 'I used to know him'. Anyone think it sounds wierd when writing it. Just doesn't seem right, especially as you pronounce it 'yoost'. That's all Edit to say: I know you could say, perhaps, 'I once knew him', but the fact that 'used' is acceptable is the odd thing

martini
Anyone think it sounds wierd when writing it. Just doesn't seem right, especially as you pronounce it 'yoost'. I say yewz'd which is how I always say used, whatever the context. That's most likely because I am a Southern Jessie, though.
Matt H
yewz'd Sounds a bit 'ghetto'.

Its the words that can be written the same but mean two things that get me. ie. If the wind is strong enough it can wind the rope around the pole. RedM
On a related note how chuffing annoying is it when people say 'aksed' instead of 'asked' or 'pacifically' instead of 'specifically'?
Mike
'pacifically' instead of 'specifically'? Someone said that to me this morning... and I was just about to correct them.. but then half of me was thinking 'that would be really patronising' (and she was in a bit of a rant, it could have turned ugly) and the other half of me was thinking 'this is quite a good yard stick to how intelligent you are, I'm going to let you carry on saying it so it will be a warning sign for other people you rant at'... they will then know you are a bit thick. That's what I do. Make a mental note of the thickos. Sometimes I make up impressive words or deliberately mispronounce existing ones and wait to see which daft c**t uses them. Is that mean? Mike
Is that mean? No, I think we should just use them as call signs between each other... it just saves time in the long run
