is why we moved away from BT .... every time i've done a check it's always come in above 45 mbps since we had it installed the other year

HOLY SHIZNITS!!! Virgin really are that good?!! I thought the whole fibre optics thing was over-hyped but DAAAAMN!

Check the IP profile on your line through the BT speed tester website. BT often restrict lines at peak times to reduce bottle necks at their exchanges.

 

I'd give up on BT if I were you. Go for an ISP that has LLU enabled at your local exchange (use http://www.samknows.com/broadband/ for this). I switched to BE and have been very happy with them.
