Airbag problem changing from 4 to 3 spoke steeringwheel

I have bought a nice 3 spoke Toyota steering wheel, instead of my old 4 spoke – and wanted to install it today. But there is a few problems.

 

The airbag connecters are not the same, can I buy a plug/connecter somewhere or any other ideas?

Another concern

In the bottom/mounting point on the old 4 spoke wheel is there 3 holes that fits to 3 points on the steering rack

 

On the new 3 spoke wheel there are no holes – but when I mount on the steering rack it seems fine.

Anything to worry about?

There could be an easy way to do this as I'm sure someone on here must've fitted a newer steering wheel, in the meantime here's my reply.

 

You could buy the connectors, or remove the connector from the old airbag and fit it to the new one. Obviously you need to make sure the wires are connected the right way around.

 

I don't mean to sound rude but it sounds like that you're not very familiar with electrics, soldering, connectors and stuff, you may be safer getting someone else to do it for you.

 

Connector info from Supraforums.com, bare in mind that this is for the US car but it may well be the same.

if you do splice it yourself, drive around with an ice hokey mask for a few weeks.... just incase

I seem to remember reading somewhere (a long time ago) that the impact sensor for the airbag was changed on the facelift Supras.

 

You may find even if you do get it connected up that it might not work as it should, not something you can easily test either

No problem, you are right – I am learning by doing

(But dangerous when playing with airbags )

Carl0s have helped me with the part number for the airbag adapter harness -

 

From Carl0s:

It's a standard Toyota part. I will find the part number for you. It comes up on Toyota's system as "special service tool", but it's the adapter. - the part number is 09082-00760

This is what that looks like....it allows connection from Atype clock spring cable to Btype airbag clip

....your horn connector should be the same .

 

Note ..Your disconnecting your neg battery cable ( before ) you do any of this right !!
