Attero
The exhaust on my n/a is smoking (see pic). Is this something to be worried about. I haven't been particuarly worried about it because it hasn't seemed to make an effect to the car overall (yet) but I would just like to know if anyone has had this problem before. It's just a continuous white puff of smoke that seems to die down slightly once the car has warmed up a bit but not entirely. http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/8333/exhaustsmoke.jpg
Ian C
If it never goes away even when warm, you're probably burning coolant from a head gasket leak. This will get worse over time, and it can do so very quickly. -Ian
Guest buster1375
My car has got the same problem, the next thing i'm going to do is get a compression check done as my car overheated recently due to fluid leak from the heater matrix. ellis
Is it smoke or is it just the cold?
Pudsey
That sir is more than likely a head gasket failure. Eventually your performance will suffer as water doesn't burn or compress. The white smoke is steam.
Attero
It wasn't particuarly cold that day. The photo was taken on the warmest day of January actually. I can almost confirm an oil leak to some extent. I'm not currently driving the car but I need a proper look into this.
Ian C
There is a sniffer test you can do that tells you if the coolant is contaminated by combustion gasses. I don't know any details about it thought. Aside from that it's head off time. -Ian
Guest Andy_H
Could it maybe be burning oil? If its not its almost certainly head gaskets failure, have a look for oil in the water, a cream substance under the oil filler cap, or on the dip stick if you see any of that its most probably that
Miguel
Are you seeing any signs of high engine temps or pressurised coolant system?
Guest aristo
if it is smoke, check your idle-up valve for the power steering, the vacuum pipes are linked into the Intake Manifold and can draw power steering steering fluid into the manifold. Attero
Have you tried sticking a nicotine patch on it? worked for my brother Nicotine gum seems more effective. Stays in place.
