supra dan
just about to switch broadband companies, O2 are miles cheaper than the rest anyone know if they are good or bad?
Porky1978
IMHO dont go with any provider that doesn't use fibre optic. Usually all speeds are 'UP TO' xx MB, and you get nowhere near their stated speed with internet down the phone line. I've had Virgin 20MB for 6 months now and never had less than 19MB connection. When i had 'UP TO' 16MB with Sky i barely got above 4MB. Hope this helps buddy.
JustGav
IMHO dont go with any provider that doesn't use fibre optic. They all use fibre now, it is the last mile that is the killer. ADSL uses standard copper, cable uses 'cable' well it is a much better coax that allows the bandwidth. If you are stuck with ADSL it normally boils down to who can offer you the best support/package because the actual speed isn't really down to them but the last 'mile' of copper to your house. EDIT : Obviously if you have a 4mb package, you won't get 8, but if you usually suffered to get 2mb on a 16mb package, you won't usually see that much improvement. Things such as ISP contention will also come in (basically how many people they are trying to cram down their wires to the internet). martini
I'm with O2, have been for 18 months. Would entirely recommend them. Very cheap, fast and no throttling.
Marty
I'm with them, they have been faultless, about a million trillion times better than bt broadband who were awful.
supra dan
thanks guys only worrying thing is they say i can get upto 20 meg even when bt say upto 8 meg? i am with orange now and get about 7 meg, but would rather have a reliable service than ultimate speed

As soon as i swapped to o2, bang, 5mb. I wouldn't listen to bt, plonkers .

Steve
I used to use o2 for there broadband service and couldnt fault them. I had to change in the end though as I live quite a distance from the exchange and the copper wires to my house were degrading and I was struggling to get a internet connection at all Luckily we have cable round here so am now on Virgins 10mb service and get 9.8mb pretty much all the time

Whitesupraboy2
2 websites you'll need http://www.samknows.com - Check who's unbundled in your area to get the best speeds http://www.top10-broadband.co.uk/speedtest/ - Check what speeds people are getting near you with different providers. (obviously not gospel because of time of day etc... but gives you an idea....Virgin always looks good on this lol

aman00123
Yea O2 is good, they are/were faster than BT because they took Be Broadband's (a company they took over) ADSL2+ technology so they have/had faster speeds than most other ADSL providers..... I'm with them though and no quibbles fantastic deal, i pay £5 for the top package
