An Arab country's ambassador to Dubai has had his marriage contract annulled after discovering the bride was cross-eyed and had facial hair.

The woman had worn an Islamic veil, known as the niqab, on the few occasions the couple had met.

The envoy, who has not been identified, told a Sharia court her mother had tricked him by showing him pictures of the bride's sister, Gulf News reported.

He only discovered the deception when he lifted the woman's veil to kiss her.

The court had annulled the marriage contract but rejected a $130,000 (£83,000) compensation claim for gifts he had bought his intended, the report said.

So do they recognise paedophilia as a crime in the Middle East then? It's a crazy world. :(

Well most of the Middle East is under Islamic law, or Sharia. I guess they take their example from their prophet Muhammad who had a wife who was 6 or 7 years old.... but its ok, he didnt sleep with her untill she was 9!?

The thing that annoys me most is british & american troops are dying trying to help them countrys out when even their own laws are so savage like that example of marring 6 year olds.

When these people immigrate to countrys such as england they wont think Paedophilia of being a bad thing and think their law applys over here.

I just want to apologise for speaking badly here, this wasn't fair of me and I shouldn't really use wikipedia as a reference point.

Although I do stand by my claim that I dont think its right to marry so young, your Quran does still say that Muhammed did marry young. http://www.muslimhope.com/AishaNine.htm

Apologies to the Muslims on this forum. No offence was intended

I'm a bit confused here now. Does Islam, as a religion, allow children of 9 (or thereabouts) to be married?

They are going to Shari Courts (religious courts?) so I guess someone thinks it does.

Its not like Christians were any better in the past, UK society has just had the opportunity to develop more. We used to make little children work in the mills and up chimmneys and girls were married off just as young.

I note though that the whole point about the 12 vs 80 case is that the government are trying to bring in new laws to introduce a minimum age. Surely thats a good sign?

That post sounds very much like you are condoning it.

Surely, regardless of whether the western countries did or did not marry as young in the past (and I would be interested to see proof of this) any sane person would still have to abhor and castigate the practice today.
