Chris Wilson
I have raced and fiddled with a good few silhouette race cars ( race cars where pretty much anything goes so long as a vague silhouette of the original shape in side profile above the wheel centrelines is maintained) but VERY few have been built in recent years. One that comes to mind is David Ellis's GT700R Aston Martin race car, built at vast expense with a full race Aston V8 up front and a Hewland transaxle at the rear, with full ground effects. The car is up and running, racing in a couple of UK series. However, on a slightly more modest budget a new Mini shaped silhouette car has emerged with a full race 2.6 litre Powertec N/A V8 in the front, driving the front wheels with 320HP. There's video of it at Donington during shake down testing, and one of it on a rolling road trying to find traction. and It looks like it's doing some decent times round Donny from the footage! It also sounds very nice.

Chris Wilson
Ultimate lightness comes at a price. In the world of silhouette cars that's considered pretty strong

Chris Wilson
It would have a very serious power to weight ratio, plus a serious build cost. Very fast in a straight line, no doubt, but pretty mediocre in the corners, due to bad aero. and FWD, nonetheless an awesome Mini!
