My Trike

Animal

Recommended Posts

After killing the engine, being utterly broke, moving away and not having any free time, I've decided that this year will see the return of my trike. It's been buried under a mountain of junk in my dad's garage for nigh on ten years, but that's finally been thrown away and we can see the thing again. :)

It was built after my accident when my left arm was still paralysed and utilised a 1300 Metro automatic as the engine and running gear are all fixed to the sub-frame, so it was an easy build.

Currently I have an 2l Cavalier engine to drop in and need to fabricate a new, tidier sub-frame and bodywork (not going to use the Mini front this time round).

The looks it got were ace. I regularly caused jams on the East Lancs going to work as people would just sit along side looking at it (usually in disbelief, wonder or horror, lol).

I kind of got impatient, and found out I suck at fiberglassing, so the bodywork was never smoothed in or painted. I just drove the thing. Unfortunately, I aquaplaned it on the motorway and stuck the front under the central barier at 50mph, bending the head bolts amongst other things.

The best one I ever saw came out of Desperate Dan's custom shop in Milton Keynes and was a supercharged Jaguar V12 engined behemoth! Absolutely mental in a straight line, but couldn't turn for shit.

One of the DD Merc V8 trikes (from Chris Ireland's web site)

Well, I thought the Boom trikes were a bit expensive. I've just come back from the NABD national rally and there was a company called Rewaco showing off their trikes. They had a good looking Ford 1.6 turbo Zetec engined thing (in my club's colours, too) for the bargain price of £31,000! (£27,000 if you bought the demo model). It was nice, but not that nice.
