Bobbeh
"Fashion" people say a lot of his style from years ago is now seen in the tight jeans and block/high shoes women wear today, so he has been influential.. alas I am not a customer of his. His low cut jeans were apparently very famous too. RIP.
merckx
His mother only died a week ago. On Sunday McQueen wrote: "sunday evening been a f****** awful week but my friends have been great but now i have to some how pull myself together ..." Yes - The pictures above show haute couture fashion and nothing like the off the peg clothing that he sold in shops and designed for individuals (like suits for Prince Charles) - the same as all designers, the stuff in fashion shows is rarely sold. It's like saying that famous hairdressers who enter hair competitions with really mad messy hair are rubbish because that's all they do. His mother only died a week ago. It's all very sad. Clearly he couldn't cope with losing his mum.

Ewen
All you need is a little black dress, black velvet heels and red lace knickers. Everything else is frippery.

Charlotte
so the point of it being........ To show off sewing/putting together an outfit with very high quality fabrics etc to showcase the fashion house. It's like modern art, some people get it and some don't. The likes of Vivienne Westwood always go over the top but actually of course they make 'normal' clothes otherwise how would they exist. Alexander McQueen was the main reason that skulls came back into high street fashion a few years ago. He's designed puma shoes/dressed hollywood stars etc etc.
imi
To show off sewing/putting together an outfit with very high quality fabrics etc to showcase the fashion house. is there a reason why they cant manage to do all the above and yet make it sellable..? It's like modern art, some people get it and some don't. ahhh.......so thats what it is, art - i should have guessed - they are modern artists... Mike
designed for individuals (like suits for Prince Charles) He was a top bloke My favourite McQueen story is the one were he made a suit for Prince Charles (he did his tailor training in Savile Row) and when he make the jacket, he sewed the words 'I am a c*nt' into the jacket lining It's a real shame... Charlotte
ahhh.......so thats what it is, art - i should have guessed - they are modern artists... What I said was - it's comparable to art because some 'get' fashion and others don't - I didn't say what he did was art.

Sorry, I dont get it.. you said that what they show on the catwalks is not what they sell.....cause if thats only what they did then they wouldn't exist (so effectively they also design normal clothes rather than the moronic crap as per the pics in the thread). so whats the point of what they show on the catwalk if it isn't even modern art (as pointless as some modern art is, I would have still seen a minute point).... I dont think you even know what its all about....

I dont think you even know what its all about.... No, that's not what I said either. I said that the photos you showed at the beginning of the thread were one off pieces - part of a couture collection; pieces like that rarely get sold (unless you have lots of cash), it's a tradition that started in Paris many years ago by the big fashion houses. They do fashion shows for off the peg designs (the stuff that does get sold), in fashion weeks like London, NYC etc etc. I also gave examples of his other work, hence trying to give a bit of history about a man you obviously know nothing about but apparently can criticise him on the day of his death. You made a comment about it being modern art and rolling your eyes. I simply explained I originally said that as a example of something that some people get and others don't - much like cars. It's all about personal taste. Some people call footballers 'genius' players, others don't agree. You just argue the toss with anyone that bites, I wish I'd not wasted my time trying to explain something to you.
