Gearbox

Well had a few more goodies installed. The gearbox (Auto) is on its limit really, ordered a HKS cooler for her, but I think the strain of the kick down on serious boost has done the damage.

Do I now go for a tiptronic, Manual or Auto. Either way its going to have to be modifed. I orginally only wanted to go for 500bhp - 550bhp, but the quest of the power has caught me, so will more than likely go above that.

Any suggestions ?

I have been told my a friend who has driven all the above that the tiptronic has a very long delay, the manaul you are always looking for gears and you race up the gearbox with no fun ? and advises me to go for a uprated auto box.

Whats your Ideas and suggestions ?

Sorry to ro the thread but on Auto gearboxes clutches I have a few questions.

1. How long are they supposed to last?

2. Mine is emitting a deep thud sometimes when it changes down to 1st is this a sign it is on its way out or is the clutch on the way out?

3. What is the best make/spec of trans fluid to change it with and where can I get some?

what sort of power mods you running to damage the auto box

thought they were good for 450bhp

last time you was on rollers you had 322bhp i think.dont hear of many auto boxes giving in.could you not upgrade to a better torque convertor.

what sort of boost you running?

if you racing a lot and doing drag racing it is better to change auto box fluid more for peace of mind.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Auto box is good for 500-550 BHP

I've just got her set up right (whiplass everytime you sink the throttle nice)

She's just over the 500nhp, my turbos are melting everything falling apart!!! the damn hoses blow off.

need nice new turbos, one gearbox, hard pipes all round and by the time they are fitted I bet something else has to be modded.

Damn boost bug, its cost me a arm and a leg!

but well worth it!
