They're essentially Les Paul Classics with the name re-done.

They are pretty expensive for the quality you are getting to be honest, alot of Duesenbergs, cheaper USA PRS, USA Deans, ESPs (NOT LTDs) and the like are better value for money.

However, they do not say Gibson so many get overlooked.

If that is the look you want, then by all means go for it! They're usually pretty nice!

The main thing which I can't stress enough is try the EXACT guitar you are going to buy before you even think about buying it!

I used to have a Gibson Zakk Wylde Les Paul Custom (RRP was £4399) and it was mediocre. I got myself a bit absorbed in it in the sense that the Gibson distributor at the time (Rosetti) had 2 in stock and so they sent both up for me to try. One was creamier in colour than the other, hada different fret profile, weighed about 1.5lbs less, had a terrible setup, a different neck profile.

For being a pretty expensive Custom Shop model, I expected a bit better consistency.

Of course, I opted for the better of the 2 as it was superior in so many ways.

The problem then being that I compared that - upon taking it home - to the rest of my guitars. It just wasn't good enough at all!

Moving on, Gibson have changed distribution policies and shops cannot stock them unless they either have 42% of their wall space accomodating Gibson and related products (Epiphone, Hamer, Kramer etc. (Gibson owned brands)) or sell £30000 (at TRADE) worth of Gibson and related products EVERY 3 MONTHS!

In other words, Gibson went from ~350 dealers in the UK to ~10 overnight, making it harder to find one.

Even the dealers that DO still get them, haven't been getting stock and have been getting told which guitars to take, not being given the choice like any normal company!

So, waffling aside, try before you buy! If you like it, go for it! Just keep your options open as there are loads of other brands out there that will give you as good/better for less of your hard earned.

:)

Les pauls expensive for the quality? your not kidding! Played a new white and gold LP custom a couple of weeks ago, and couldnt get over what a cricket bat it was, muddy bass, clumsy feel, not that nicely built and £2499 IIRC.

Agreed on there is much better guitars out there for less money, like the USA jacksons (£300 less), which I sold me PRS custom 24 to change too as it didnt hold tune very well, finer build quality and awesome neck. I rate the USA deans, and music mans too.

The badge snob is the prey of the big 2!

So Gibson are being a Toyota, less dealers and more pressure on them, tut tut.

FWIW, I think the best V.F.M. in rock guitars are the late 80's charvels made in japan. Why? on the neck through models, you get a big range of dual and single coil sounds, excellent jumbo fret job, very low action, excellent high fret access so you dont have to re shape your hand to play up there or drop your wrist etc, very high build quality etc. I have 3 of them, plus the USA jackson, USA Dean, etc etc, and I dont care about the badge I just prefer what really rocks for me.

Nice too see your not a "must be a vintage strat or les paul" man.

Would like to add a SoCal or EVH charvel to the stable, but i resent playing list price lol.
