Chris Wilson
And you get an almost unbelievably expensive scrap yard complete with leaping marshals and skittled driver evacuees. Only pride and bank balances were hurt in the making of this mayhem.
jevansio
I was waiting for that SD1 to pick it's way through to victory
Chris Wilson
I think the ambulance was the only vehicle to finish the first lap....
tomgeer
I don't know why but watching that made me giggle a little bit, crazy conditions
Bobbeh
Cool vid, nothing like watching cars made out of cornflake boxes come apart like that
Kirk
Now thats a destruction derby and hugely expensive!
Scott
What happens in a situation like that? Clearly the track was undriveable. Do the officials take any responsibility? Very very expensive day out that. The in car video showed the lack of control.
Luxluc
Wow ... what a mess.

If we billed the FIA everytime a race wasn't stopped and our drivers ended up in the wall, we'd pretty much be racing for free! Mind you, I remember when they stopped a race because all the drivers were on dry tyres, apart from our driver (Winkelhock) who had managed to pull a 43 second lead. I still till this day don't know why the race was stopped. We were punished because the other teams couldn't tell if it was raining or not! Hamilton even had his car lifted out of the gravel trap by a crane and lifted back onto the track to continue! If that's not "outside assistance" then I don't know what is! I take it pointing things like that out generally fall on deaf ears?
ilicos
The fact that they were running slicks would not have helped either!
Gambit
Slick tyres in that rain.
TLicense
I take it pointing things like that out generally fall on deaf ears? Yup. Although I can't complain. We've had a few race wins off of the back of a wet race. Spa '98 (our first race win) Magny Cours '99 was another wet race that we won. Brazil '03 was another one that we (eventually) won, even though the FIA couldn't do their maths to start with. (We were awarded the win in court a week later) Happy days....
