Aha! Hey Paul :D

 

I still miss her sometimes :( . There were also some great guys active on the forum back in those days

 

But I am sure I will forget all about that once the new, improved Supra is back in my hands :D

 

Just found this old school clip of Bolney back in 2003. The GTI-R at the end is how good they can sound :)

What does that mean?

 

I've seen a couple of 11 sec GTi-R's run and i've never seen them crack 4.5 to 60.

 

How was all this measured? Were you running slicks? I just can't see how this is possible with 300hp.

 

Edit: Having looked at the rest of the times there are cupra-r's running 5.5 sec 60's. Timing is bull if thats the case.

Some interesting info here...

 

Although it was the Ford Escort Cosworth and the Lancia Delta Integrale that raked in all the glory, the Pulsar GTi-R is arguably a better ownership proposition than both of these icons and it can certainly more than hold its own on the road. Take power to weight ratio. The Pulsar pumps out 189bhp per tonne whereas its contemporaries such as the Integrale 16v at 163bhp/tonne or the Toyota Celica GT4 at 134bhp/tonne dont stand a chance. Bear in mind that todays crop of super hatches cant beat this.

 

A Ford Focus RS manages 169bhp/tonne and a Honda Civic Type-R 166. Not even mega-money specials like the VW Golf R32 or the Audi S3 can touch the little Nissan. Performance figures for the standard car are 0-60 in 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 143mph although such cars are relatively rare.

 

A more indicative time for a 260bhp boosted car is around 4.9 seconds to 60mph and top speed nudging 150mph dependent on gearing. Handling is well up to scratch as well, with no nasty surprises in store. On wet roads the GTi-R will eventually understeer, but with more commitment will drift all of a piece.

 

Still puts modern hatches to shame performance wise.

Mine was 300bhp and 1120kg so 3-9 to 60 is quite easy to do.

 

There are a couple of guys on there even quicker, one did 3.7 to 60 with just 246bhp and is now doing low 12s on the quarter (with a little more power)

 

If you have never seen a R go below 4.5 then you know jack shit about the cars, a quick search on you tube will reveal all, the gtir is like a rocket off the line no matter what the power

With regards to the car running low 12's, what was the terminal speed and estimated power?

That one has an alleged 500hp, 11.4. I've seen faster than that.

 

If you click on the link i posted to the gtiroc take a look at the poster 'fastguy' his car was 246hp and did 3.7 to 60 aswell as a mid to high 12 on the strip.

 

I dont see how its hard to believe, 300bhp, 1120kgs, 4wd, 1 gear change needed to hit 60, try http://www.letstorquebhp.com for some figures. it all adds up, if you still dont believe it when i get my next one i will take it to 300hp again and then repeat the 0-60 time at a location of your choice :)

I don't trust the timing. I know of no FWD car on road tyres that can do 60 in mid 5's. The fastest FWD I know of is the DC5.

 

Power is not the issue & the 3.7 is just a ridiculously fast time. To go from a stock time of 5.2 to 3.7 with 27bhp more is physically impossible.

 

The time of the Supra is just as ridiculous FWIW.

 

The only thing that would make me think differently is if they were setup for the strip and not in road atire. I'm pretty sure TDR got a very quick 0-60 but look at the setup he had in play to get it.

 

I know how fast the GTi-r's are. They are very very quick cars, especially off the line. They are not 3.7 0-60 with 250bhp fast though. By the looks of the times in that list they were off by up to a second.

They are very quick and would destroy almost anything that's not modded to kingdom come on straights and twisties. Just Youtube them.

 

However, as said, a lot of these most probably have been abused or taken to the limit. The car MUST be serviced regularly so check for history. Also the gearbox is the weakest link but most serious owners would upgrade the components. Not sure about rusts though.

 

TLDR ; effin quick car but ugly as sin and a potential for high maintanence cost.

Brother in Law had one years ago, his was pushing about 330-340 as well, highly tuned and didnt look that bad (nice bodykit, etc). shame about the issues he had with the gearbox though.....and a bit pricey to maintain..

I know bud, I am referring to the FWD Leon Cupra that has been clocked at doing 0-60 in 5.2 according to that day.

 

I thought it was pointless saying that the GTi-R times were low as a GTi-R owner or previous owner won't see past their pride. I thought it better to point out the inaccuracies of the times by using the other cars mentioned on the table.

Honda civic EK9 Type-r does 0-60 in 5.7

 

Official figure is 6.8 seconds but testing has found between 5.7 and 6.0 from what I read the last time. All I could find on the DC5 was 5.9 seconds. 5.2 seconds is a million miles away from 5.9 and 5.7 as far as 0-60 goes though.

 

FWIW the fastest stock cupra has an official figure of 6.2. The rest are 6.7. Both of these figures are fantastic for a FWD car. IMO without adding some sort of extra grip adding power would only see a drop in the 0-60 time due to the increase of wheelspin.

 

5.2 is pie in the sky IMO, going by the stock times I would say the timing was a second out on the day.

So by that measurment then the supra did a 4.9 which isn't anything special

 

Its about the going rate bud. 4.5-5 seconds is pretty good going for a supra with road tyres & suspension. Personally I would be happy with 5.5 as I don't have any real practice launching the car properly. Jake on here managed a 4.9 with his VVTi supra IIRC.

 

As I said, to get anything special you need to really have the car well setup to do it. Have a look at TDR's old times & setup to get an idea of what is required. It has nothing to do with power, BPU is about as fast a 0-60 as you will get from a supra. The more power you have the more chance you have of breaking traction, you can add power till the cows come home and you won't get any faster.
