Ricky49
Hi Guys and Gals I know this will be a bit hard to answer over the forum but here goes. I have just drove into town and back home. I just parked on the drive and got out and could smell a slight burning smell a bit like a clutch smell. It's more on the drivers side, the car drives as normal. There nothing obvious under the bonnet or from underneath. I'm not mechically minded when it comes to things like this so anyone any ideas? Could the clutch be on it's way out:search: . Edited February 6, 2010 by Ricky49 (see edit history)
Matt _Aero top_
Front or back ? My guess is a siezed caliper .
Ricky49
Front. Wouldnt a seized caliper make it drive funny.
Matt _Aero top_
yes could do . Take it for a good run and then get out and give it a good sniffing round the brake area . other than that its a hard question to answer over a forum . Suprab1
As above sounds like a caliper is stuck on. Drive the car again then put your hand next to each wheel you will feel one will be alot hotter if its the brakes.

RobSheffield
My guess would be that something is burning, slightly. HTH
Ricky49
Jacked the car up today and spun the front wheels seem to spin quite freely. Once the car was jacked up I saw some oil dripping. Looked under the bonnet and shone a torch into the bottom of the engine and could see a nice covering of oil sat on top of the underside engine cove:shock:r. Matt _Aero top_
Maybe Jamie hit the nail on the head then , Have a good look round the cam cover to see if the gaskets leaking .

Scott
Sounds like it might be the front crank. Hopefully it isn't, cam cover seal is a doddle to sort out, crank isn't. Keep a close eye on your oil level

Ricky49
Went to see LeeP today about the oil. He found that I had two sandwich plates and one of them was loose. As I have two plates the car had a small oil filter on. This has no relevence to the burning smell though which we think could be the clutch. I got to keep an eye on the oil and if its still leaking he suggests taking one of the plates off and putting a stock size oil filter on. After tighting the plate Lee kindly fitted my TRD front strut brace and front cover undertray .
