Guest memonkeyboy
hi i have a na 93 mk iv. a few months ago the engine overheated. a friend took out the thermostat and it ran fine for a few weeks then it overheated again and blew out the core plug in the water pump. i fitted a new pump and it ran fine for a few weeks now its overheating again this time its blown a hole in something over the inlet manifold lots of steam but hard to see where its from. the only thing i can think of, is the head gasket has blown, but it runs fine with no lumpy tick over and no white smoke and no white oil. i have looked at the other threads on here they all say white smoke? i dont think its an air lock i have disconected both heater pipes and run a hose pipe in all directions. any ideas please? TLicense
If you've got a stock rad it could be that. The plastic end-tanks can form micro cracks that mean it won't hold pressure so the car overheats. Either way get a pressure test done at a local garage and see where it's leaking from. They'll also be able to do a "sniff test" to see if their are any exhaust gases in the coolant which will tell you if it's a BHG.
