supradibbs
Ok so engines just gone back in after head rebuild so intake manifold and exhaust and head were obviously removed. Fired the car yesterday and the car jumps straight to 3,000 RPM, check the plenum for open vac lines etc i know the manifold has new gasket and is on good and tight as i did it,i cant hear any kinda hissing sound so pretty sure shes not drawing in air. I have disconnected the throttle cable and verified that the butterfly in the Throttle body is all the way closed. So basically am now a bit stuck, minus fitting the front end on exhaust and powersteering fluid the car is ready to go:(
tooquicktostop
What does Lee think it is that is causing it, he fired the car up right ?
Terminator
Is the IACV stuck open. They have to cycle through several stages and sometimes wont shift out of park.C
supradibbs
The car does not have a idle control valve cold start etc is all done via the ecu means it runs a little lumpy sometimes at idle but basically works fine. I fired the car up as all the work was carried out at mine, spoke too lee on the phone and he seems to think that the manifold maybe drawing in air and Ryan is of the same opinion
Kirk
If thats the case and you have checked everything then where could it be drawing it in?
Lee P
You need to check again mate, you must have a leak on the manifold somewhere or the throttle plate is open too far. It must be a big leak as well to be revving that high. Edited February 6, 2010 by Lee P (see edit history)
Chris Wilson
Remove the I/C pipe to the throttle body. Run engine at (fast...) idle, put palm of hand over throttle body stub, see if it slows down or stops the engine. If so, throttle is held open by ecu or mechanical means. If it carries on revving it's an air leak before the throttle body. HTH.
supradibbs
Thanks Chris yeah that was pretty much my next job, now the alarm has gone stupid and wont unlock which is a problem when the car has no key barrels on the outside, no problem i thought would just climb in through the boot but for some reason that key barrel has decided to fail. Looking like i maybe putting the window in:(
