edge
Cheers guys, I like Deans idea of putting a stock engine in, it's cheap & if I pull the swap off myself then everytime one goes bang it's only the cost of an engine (hopefully it'll be few & far between). I also like the idea of a 3.4 though, it would be my ultimte goal, but maybe I should attempt a swap on a stock engine 1st incase I do anything wrong, no point me fecking up a £10k 3.4l lump. Pop a new stock one in and build up the other.

jevansio
Spent the afternoon stripping the turbo/exhuast side off, basically following the workshop manual steps to removing the head, might get it off tomorrow, might be next weekend. Chris Wilson
Sounds like a valve to me, whatever, it sounds knackered You might just be lucky and damage is confined to the head. If it's dropped a valve you MUST account for cotters and stuff, things like that lurking about can do a LOT of damage.

Once the head is off if I get pics of the said items is it possible to tell if the damage is confined to the head, or should the block be sent to an expert to check? What are cotters? jevansio
3.4 and be done what on earth were you fitting RLTC for? bin it !! , I onyl fitted it to help me get the power down in the lower gears on the cooler days:D When I pull the head off will a "dropped valve" be plain to see? Scott
Sorry to hear this Jay. I like your thinking on a stock engine. What about pulling your engine, fitting a stocker and then building up the fooked one on an engine stand? Keep your head in the engine, no point in getting down about it. Whats done is done. At least you will have a good learning curve to concentrate on

scotty71
Rising piston hits the valve which may have some damage or been open at the wrong time. Crunch:blink: scotty

jevansio
Really appreciate all the help & offers (via pm also), what a club Hopefully with the head off the extent of the damage will be visible I can decide the plan of action I'm really starting to think the benefits of a fully built engine are a waste of time when revving to stock limits, when you offset the price of a stock engine vs a 3.0 built vs 3.4 built, the stock seems such a bargin.
