charlton
Just trying to upgrade the hard drive on my PS3 from 80gb to 250gb which should be a faily simple task... Every guide I have read says the system should automatically detect that a new hard drive is installed and prompt you to format it. Well mine doesn't, it says: Connect storage media that contains update data of version 3.15 or later, and then press the START and SELECT buttons at the same time. Simple again right? ....No applicable update data was found. I've downloaded the update from the Playstation website and saved it on a memory stick and external hard drive, both on the root of the drive and in the PS3 folder but yet it doesn't find it. I know the drives work on the system as I have backed my data up on there before swapping the hard drives. I've searched and cant find anyone thats had similar issues, I've even tried to break the male code of conduct and read the manual but couldn't find it. Anyone else had this issue or have any suggestions before I throw it out the window? Edit: Should also add that the new drive is also a 54000rpm Seagate like the original

captainchaos
you need to download the update data from the ps3 site and then put it onto a usb stick in a file named update then the update file into a folder called ps3

I've just ripped apart my external hard drive to connect the new drive to my computer and format it on there but that hasn't worked either.
