hodge
I've read in a couple of peoples garages who have built engines that they have there oilways modded. What does this entail exactly and how is it done. Thanks John

JamieP
In the block? Not heard of that myself, some people run modified OEM PHR oil pumps.
hodge
Yeah I've got a PHR oil pump. Jay has his done but doesn't know exactly what was done when the engine was built. A while ago I spoke to Kevin from Envy and he was wanting to sell me a Titan block with modified oilways. If it's just a case of oversized oilways and I can get some clarity on where they are I'll do it myself whilst I've got the engine stripped. paul mac
i have heard of this "mod" myself but could never be bothered to dig deeper, i would be sceptical of any "gains" and would like to here the rational behind the "mod", looking at my spare block in the garage i would say the only thing you could do is clean up the casting roughness to improove flow but Mr T knows a thing about building engines so i think i'll give him the benefit of the doubt
Chris Wilson
Probably means a bit of hand fettling with a die grinder around the oil filter ports and suchlike. I did my N1 Skyline block to de burr and smooth the oil passageways.
jevansio
Michel did mine, I have no idea on what was done, it was just on the spec list I was given

jevansio
I will pm Michel to see if he can add anything as I just listed on my garage what Michel gave me when I got the receipt of the work done
Chris Wilson
Opening up the oil pump drain hole might be considered an oil way mod, in a very broad sense? Not that there's room to remove much material at all....

michel lane
Hi All, I contacted the person who built Jays engine. His discription of "modified oilways" consist of using a tool down the oil pickup and along the block were oil channels goes into the oil pump. this tool would get rid of the cast inperfections along the main oilways. Aparently it makes the flow better. I believe you know him Jay , it was Jeff archer , he has his own machine shop and specialises in 2cv racing .
