Graham Rudd
Hi Graham, I recently found a link to the software you have written regarding interfacing with the Racelogic Traction unit. I’ve not yet attempted to use it, but at a first glance it seems to be able to control everything – so well done. I’m writing to pick your brains with regards to the traction system (Racelogic seem a little busy right now). (The car is a Vauxhall Nova fitted with 16V engine and proprietary MBE 956 ECU and loom coupled to throttle bodies. Fitted are 4 wheel speed sensors purchased from Racelogic the system does not have any extras fitted like launch control) If you can help, here are the problems: Firstly, when the car is started from cold and the rotary adjuster is positioned in anything other than ‘off’ the engine will stop completely. When the engine has reached correct operating temperature however, the adjuster can be placed in any position and not cause the engine to stop. Secondly the car intermittently misfires. The engine will run fine for several minutes then all of a sudden it will misfire (under any engine load). Then a few moments later it will be working fine again and so on. If however I plug the diagnostic lead in and switch from ‘wet’ to ‘off’ and vice versa the car stops misfiring almost immediately. This leads me to believe that the cause of the misfire is related to the traction unit itself. When the diagnostic lead is plugged in, the LED acts as follows: ‘wet’ position – LED on constantly, ‘off’ position – LED flashing in time with engine. Unfortunately I seem unable to completely override the system and therefore use the vehicle – awkward as it was my daily drive!! Any advice/help is appreciated. Ben. Can any of you guy help with this query? Gut instinct says a bad earth, but quite possibly something much more (or less) insidious. I hope Ben doesn't mind me posting his mail here, but I figure this is the best bet for a result! Cheers Graham
Terminator
Too many variables here, but poor connection possibly to earth would be a good staring point. As afar as I know no one here has had a faulty RL unit. Most problems we have dealt with successfully have been either bad connections or dats. eyefi
this dont look too good on racelogic, being too busy to help / sort customers problems that someone has to speculatively write to a 3rd party software engineer. nice one for trying to help the guy tho. if hes installed it himself, i would say the first thing to check is the installation, then start thinking about faulty unit. Guest Martin F
Sounds like a dodgy installation to myself. If he can fire up the software (yours or Racelogic's) he can eliminate connections to the wheel sensors, RPM signal etc straight away.
