tbourner
We're doing airsoft for my mates stag do. Can anyone who plays tell us what kind of games you play? We're booking a private session for 14 of us to have the place to ourselves - an underground WWII bunker! So what happens when we get there? I can only think of capture the flag and hunt the stag! How do the games work? I'm worried some of the people we're going with will cheat and not admit to being hit - when you're hit do you have to go back to the safe zone for a period of time or something? Can't help Trev, but that sounds like a great laugh. Done loads of paintballing, but never Airsoft! I like the idea of catch the stag though!! Scott
Lots of cheating will go on if there are no markers. Not fancy paintball?
AndrewOW
Maybe use real bullets? That'll stop them cheating!

Matt H
Do the plastic balls fly further than paintballs do?
tbourner
Do the plastic balls fly further than paintballs do? Not really AFAIK. But being indoors will help with that. We've done paintball before we fancied something different - apparently you certainly know you've been hit, but you can just say you weren't and carry on if you're that kind of person. gavin.starr
Paint balls splat BB's dont paintballs are un accurate at most sites unless you pay for better guns. Airsoft expect close groupings with fully automatic mode at around 25-40 yards. the guns you will use will be exact replicas of the real thing not like paintballing where you have an unsightly hopper and a gassbottle stuck under your arm pit. The BB's go in a magazine and load like the real thing. If you dont want them to cheat, go for areas of tight clothing on the legs and back i can guarantee they will give up if the get 4-5 BB's to one place of the body. Oh and BB's are a dam sight cheaper, i buy them in at 7500 BB's for around 7 quid, went paintballing this sat just gone and got charged 35 quid for 500 paintballs rip off. i recomend airsoft to any one. mwilkinson
Yeah I have a few electric bb guns and use to game through Combat South in Portsmouth quite a bit. Much better than paintball. More accurate, more realistic, better range etc. Also cheaper. If people are going to cheat they will. Having played paintball millions of time too I would say levels of 'not taking hits' are similar. The only difference being close range with a bb gun will draw blood on bare skin. Jay_vr6
I also used to play at combat south was in the team and everything, where is this ww2 bunker you'll be playing at ? oh and take lots of extra cash for flashbangs and smokes, you'll need them in cqb conditions. tbourner
I think the Combat South one is on top of Portsdown Hill? This one is the other fort just to the West of that (Fort Southwick I think). The place is called UCaP and it's a bit cheaper than Combat South, plus they only need 14 people for a private game rather than I think it was 25 for CS. Yep here it is: http://www.portsdown-tunnels.org.uk/palmerston_forts/fort_southwick/1_overview_p1.html http://www.portsdown-tunnels.org.uk/palmerston_forts/fort_southwick/3_ughq_modern_p2.html Looks like fun!! Jay_vr6
Nice, never been to that one, There is a rather tremendous "Mall" in reading to play at too nothing like shooting up a shopping centre Oh and btw cheaters just get shot alot more!! nothing like rolling 500rnds into some cheating sap remember the flashbangs!! Matt H
remember the flashbangs!! If the flashbangs are anything like the one's we had last at paintballing then they are rubbish. At the end of the day, you can't actually defend and blind someone during a 'play' game.
Rob_Mitchell
them air soft pellets bloody hurt trust me if someone gets hit you know about it lol. i play paintball regular most weekends much more fun plus you see the headshots. tbourner
Ok but what games do you play? Do you all just run around and shoot each other or are there proper things to do?
Jay_vr6
oh dear, you use a flash bang to advance, not blind someone and defend, plus remember you are in a close quarters area and even crappy mk5 are ok in a room, most places now allow use of thermobaric grenades which are far better
Jay_vr6
as for what games depends on the site, if there is only 14 of you I'd expect close quick games, capture the flag, area defend, escort mission. Looking at the layout of the place they may have some 3 team games as well, you could always ask them ? They will mix things up on defend games possibly giving the defenders a time limit and then the other team has unlimited lives to try and storm the defenses, the defenders have only one life so its a case of whittling them down. supspower
you will know when someone gets hit as they will probably yelp! Games wise what Jay said maybe team deathmatch, escort
Rob_Mitchell
well our area is in a cave which is good fun, as mentioned above its capture the flag, defend area without going leaving base, attack base, take parcel to other base etc.. paintball is better in my opinion but both are a good laugh especially with a high vis vest on lol

kill1308
I did Airsoft at an abandoned school in Manchester, was one of the most fun things that I've ever done As for the cheaters, we didn't get any... the yelps of pain from the receiver of projected BB's indicate that a clean hit has been made We played lots of different games, Search & Destroy where we had 2 people go and hide and then the rest had to go find (there was 12 of us). Equal teamed Search & Destroy, capture the flag, defend an area (then attack the same area next game), the list went on. Was really great fun as the guys said we could feel free to boot doors open and pretty much do whatever we wanted. The only thing we couldn't do was blind fire around corners for obvious reasons. Prepare yourself for pain and lots of little BB sized cuts... couple of friends lost fingernails after getting hit on hand wielding the weapon Not immediately of course, but nasty bruising meant they eventually fell off, I've still got a small scar on my hand from July last year. Would I do it again..... HELL YEAH
mwilkinson
Yeah Combat South is by far the best organiser in the south. Steve there was one of the founding members of a pressure group to the government when the law changed regarding the ownership and use of realistic imitation firearms which are now prohibited without membership to the airsoft association. This all came under the introduction of the Violent Crime Reduction Bill in 2005/2006. He helped set up the airsoft association which were given an exemption under the act. All my weapons came from their shop in Portsmouth. I have a P90 with upgraded motor and promethius spring and gear set. I also have a M4A1 and a gas M109 for really close work Really enjoyed the CQB at the fort. Makes a mess of peoples faces. I also used to play at combat south was in the team and everything, where is this ww2 bunker you'll be playing at ? oh and take lots of extra cash for flashbangs and smokes, you'll need them in cqb conditions. mwilkinson
Actually now I come to think of it. I met a guy at Combat South in 2005 that had a silver Toyota Supra N/A. It had a dent in the rear wing from a shopping trolley accident. Anyone on here?
Jay_vr6
Mwilkinson we've possibly met as I was a regular at CS back in 2005 and one of the wasp team MattH your correct a flash bang does indeed flash and bang! but it is generally used as an advancing tool and fear inducer. You have no proper experience of them or how to use them so hush up.
