scotty71
Anyone experienced it yet? what is it like? They (sky) are doing a few pub runs first as I guess you know? Then they are rolling it out to more pubs and venues and then to all with Sky+hd boxes as a free add on later in the year. I am looking forward to it, should be good stuff. The first tests I think is today Arsenal Vs Man U but there not saying where. The glasses used will be the polaroid type:d Sky article here for those who are interested http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Sky-To-Show-Worlds-First-Sports-Event-Live-In-3D-Arsenal-v-Man-Utd-To-Be-Screened-In-Nine-Pubs/Article/201001415536976?lpos=UK_News_First_Technology_Article_Teaser_Region__1&lid=ARTICLE_15536976_Sky_To_Show_Worlds_First_Sports_Event_Live_In_3D%3A_Arsenal_v_Man_Utd_To_Be_Screened_In_Nine_Pubs_ Scotty

Whitesupraboy2
We are all stuffed, unless you have a new tv set you wont be seeing jack $#@! that's not true ....although it may feel like it! If you have a set that does 120hz it may work. You can already get 3D on tvs now through nvidia graphics cards, displays must work at least at 120hz, then the nvidia card sends 2 different images at 60Hz and you wear LCD glasses. Just got to hope SKY uses same type of technology
Scott
I watched that crappy 3D movie my bloody valentine and it worked fine on my TV. I don't think it was anything to do with running at any amount of hz. The picture is simply integrated twice into the one image. The processing needs to be done at the source and then put out as normal. Can't see any reason why it wouldn't work that way with anything they want to broadcast. I'm guessing that Sky sports 3D will be a seperate channel? If that is the case my guess is as above, all hanky panky done before broadcast. RiceRocket
Nice one, first 3D match and the score's 3-

If you want the good 3D higher quality then its needed at 120hz, that way two completely seperate images at HD quality are projected per frame alternating. Heres link to current technology apparently makes PC games great http://www.nvidia.com/object/3D_Vision_Main.html

They have to cater to the masses.

Yea agree Unfortunately its going to be like the BluRay - HDDVD battle there is 3 basic ways to create 3D TV, all not compatible with each other
Bobbeh
Unfortunately its going to be like the BluRay - HDDVD battle Only unfortunate if you bought HD-DVD, the thing is not to rush out and splash out on the first thing that comes to market, have patience. Whitesupraboy2
Or just see sense and back the winner to begin with I like your thinking where's your guess going 3 types Polarised TV - lense on screen , polarised glasses needed 2 pictures alternative pics - LCD glasses needed, very expensive (currently £130 each) Not much known, but apparently one that doesn't require glasses, not sure how good it is! Alot of the companies like Sony building 3d processors into the TV to change any input into 3D, so in theory a good TV with 3D processor and you cant go wrong Apparently the leader in 3D technology in Japan is a company called Hyundai
Bobbeh
Sony have been a front runner in 3D for a while now, it would be a safe bet sticking with what they produce, but that doesn't mean to say it'll become the standard, we all remember BETA! (only just).
Scott
Sony.... always. When the Bluray war came about as soon as Sony was mentioned there was only one way it was going to end IMO. I think to begin with the 3D technology will work the same as 3D movies just now. The movies will be recorded in 3D or processed to support 3D and sent to the subscriber pre-mixed. There will be no processing involved at the users end. All they need to do is fire on the 3D glasses. Of course this will mean that there will be a loss of quality but if you consider that sky is 720p this gives the width required to raise the bar. In the future it will all come down to the technology making it better and better. When it comes to this Sony will win. Whatever format sony go for, that is the horse to back IMO. Whitesupraboy2
Agree with you both... especially with sony having the blu-ray player and PS3 being ready for 3D too. At end of the day i don't think broadcasted TV is where 3d is, its the bluray movies at 1080P in 3D which will win it. Broadcasted TV is just a bonus! Bobbeh
Well they did have one advantage as they probably do with 3D, in that they have direct influence in the film industry seeing as they own many large film studios.
Whitesupraboy2
bad news all bits and bobs wont be done before broadcasted, you will need a '3D TV ready' TV http://corporate.sky.com/media/press_releases/2009/3d_tv.htm and from news report it sounded like a polarised set needed, whilst i think Sony were working on a LCD version....lets hope they come up with something that's interchangeable somehow
