Which x-box

Can anyone advise me on this. I've got a spare room in the house and i'm thinking of making use of it, basically a room for me to be left alone to play games:d. The problem is i'm no expert on the whole gaming thing and don't want to buy the wrong one.

Now ive got a psp which i've used a bit but thats about it so i want to step up a bit and buy an x-box 360 (i really want forza 3 because it seems the best race game to my limited knowledge)

Now from what i've read i think an X-box 360 elite 120Gb is the one to have? i think this has a wireless controller which is a must for me but how do they charge, are there docking stations or something for them. Do X-boxes play Dvd's etc. I've also got a phone line in the room so is the Internet needed for updates etc.

So if anyone could tell me what to look out for or anything not to miss on the bundles etc i would really appreciate it.

I've seen this online, is it a good deal? Also i've been told that the shop 'Game' will take my psp in part ex as i no i won't use it when i get the X-box, is this correct?

Anyway sorry for all the questions, but just wanted impartial advise, here's the link to the bundle i've seen

360 elite is the package to go for, i think all the packs come with wireless controllers now. The controllers just use AA batteries, But you can get a power packs that plug into a usb slot to charge and play at the same time (price about £10)

, or even better is the Forza 3 pack

Oh and steering wheel is always fun

If you have broadband already at home, plumb it in to the network to get updates and to race against other people. It does not have wireless built in, but avoid wireless with game systems if you can anyway.

Side note: You have to pay a yearly fee to play against others online, but its worth it.

As for media, The xbox plays DVD's (no blue ray), but also has the feature to stream videos from other computers in the house or just rent/buy them online directly through the xbox.

If you have a copy of windows 7 on any of your machines in the house try out the media centre feature, a great way to watch movies/downloads.

Whatever you decide, hope to see you on the track. gamertag = Smallshinyant

this has a wireless controller

how do they charge, are there docking stations or something for them.

They have 2x AA batteries which you swap out with new ones. You can buy rechargeable ones if you like, of course, but they don't charge in the controller.

Do X-boxes play Dvd's etc.
Yes

If you want all the features of Xbox live you'll need a gold membership which is around 40 quid. Also the newest Elite Xboxes have this Jaspar motherboard which apparantly eliminates the red ring of death ™

You can get a play and charge pack for it which is rechargable, you plug it into the USB ports and it charges while the console is off. Also buy an HDMI lead unless you have one, they dont come with one.

I got the elite and never looked back, used to be a pc gamer, shop around on ebay and you can get 13 months membership for around 25-30 quid.

i got a play and charge kit, which is justa re chargable battery that goes into the controller and when it runs low just plug it in to the front of the console to re-charge which can be done when its off or whilst you are playing.

happy gaming

If you are set on an Xbox it has to be the elite, just coz it is black lol. You can buy the arcade and upgrade it to an elite but the only way you are going to get it black is with a can of spray.

Do you have a PS3? I would be getting one of those first. I love both of my consoles for different reasons but I use my PS3 much more often. Forza 3 is absolutely fantastic though.

As has been suggested, there are re-chargeable packs that can be bought for the xbox. They are fairly cheap on ebay and tend to last ages between charges.

You need more than a phone socket to gain access to the internet. You must have a modem somewhere in your house, with possibly a router or wireless router? If that is the case you need to connect the xbox to that router one way or another. You can either feed a cat5/6 cable from the xbox to the router or you can buy a wireless dongle to connect to the wireless router if you have it. It is a little bit of hassle but nothing too technical :)

The deal you have posted is good. I always recommend game as they tend to do really good offers. Between game and play they pretty much have the market covered.... other than when amazon websites get glitches lol.

You won't really get an impartial opinion on here. I love both consoles for different reasons, that is about as impartial as it gets. Most people favour one over the other and solely have one or the other.

I have all the features of xbox gold and it was only £25 for 13 months, You have to just look around. Quite alot of sites around ebay do them, They don't send you the card, They just email the code to redeem. Just find one with a good record.

Exactly, You do need to shop around, Mine is due in march so i will be looking again. I have 2 rechareable batteries and a charger and just swap them around, A full charge should last around 25 hours.

I had the ps3 but had it replaced 3 times. Now its an expensive paper weight lol, I got my self the special edition elite which is the forza 3 package but has a 250gb hard drive.

That is a massive hard drive, My consoles only have the 60gb and i haven't even used half of it.

Unfortunately the Jasper edition doesn't eliminate the RROD. Buying new is the only way to be 100% sure that the warranty is valid.

If I can add my two pence, one of things I'd check is the HDMI cable. One of the benefits that the elite had (at least 2-3 years ago when I got an elite) over it's little brothers was that it came with an HDMI cable which made the gameplay that little bit more fun. Although when I was having a similar discussion with a mate, he believed the other versions now come with an HDMI cable. If they do come with an HDMI cable now and if you're not going to use all that space. I would recommend one of the cheaper non-elite packages.

As i say, I've had mine for ages and I think I've got about 80g of space left. Most of my space is kept for videos, a bit of music and add ons.

Anyway, that's my thought.
