Two quick technical questions

Hi there

I went to look at a Supra today, two things I wanted to ask.

 

1) How much does it cost roughly to regas the aircon? How often does it have to be done?

 

2) I noticed that on the rear discs, there was a small rim (about 1cm of the outer disc) that was corroded and didn't seem to be wearing - the rest was all shiny and obviously making contact with the pad. What does this mean? - new discs needed? new pads needed? both?

Hi mate

1) around £50 - 75. if u do it once and just use it once a week to keep it recirculating, id be surprised if u have to do it again while u own the car (unless u got a leak)

 

2) that is just where pads dont make contact, mine are same mate, water gives it surface rust. It doesnt mean you need new Disc but if there is quite a thick lip then you could replace them if you wanted.

Mine are like this, but the pads do go all the way to the edge. The problem seems to be that something causes a rim to start to form and then it gets progressively worse because the rusty surface grinds a "step" in the pad. This was quite noticable when I last changed my rear pads.
