edge
I heard a few people recommend this stuff so thought i'd give it ago. Got some turtle wax stuff from halfords for £4.99 and its worth every penny. Used in on the inside on the other halfs car as she was having to de-ice the inside each morning and it cured that. And when it peeing down of rain on the motorway you just dont seem to need to use your wipers. And when you do use the wipers its as though they are brand new again. Just thought i'd share that

Branners
I got told with RainX that you need to make the windscreen really clean to start with. Whatever dirt is on the screen will be sealed in there. Recommendation I saw was to use toothpaste all over the screen, then clean it off really well and then apply the RainX. On the bottle it just said use turtle wax window cleaner which was on the shelf but seems the same as any other window cleaner. Gave them a quick squirt with the washers and wipers first, then window cleaner then do the rain x. If you do have dirt then i doubt you will be able to notice it if you follow the instructions and clean well. It does say to reapply after approx 3 weeks as it wears away i guess. Tooth paste is an abrasive a little like t-cut so i would take care not to go mad with it just incase you make a few marks with it but glass is tough. Also Toothpaste is good on white plastic to help clean out scratches and the dirt in the grooves.
Jake
I've been using Rain-X for years. It's great stuff. As said in the first post, it makes your wipers work really well, they glide so much better. I've recently tried the gel type but it's nowhere near as good and really difficult to wipe off thoroughly after applying it. I've also tried several different makes but nothing seems to work quite as well as the genuine Rain-x brand. I got told with RainX that you need to make the windscreen really clean to start with. Whatever dirt is on the screen will be sealed in there. Nah, that's not right. The screen needs to be cleanish just so that the Rain-x liquid can properly get to the glass and fill the tiny dimples in the glass surface. If the screen isn't clean when you're applying it the rain-x just doesn't work as well, that's all. A coating of Rain-x only lasts about 3-4 weeks anyway, after that it gradually loses its water repelling ability.
