TrevS
Problem is if it has excessive wear you will need pads and perhaps a disc(s), Kwik fit will not have these in stock for sure I would look at visiting one of the forum garages in the Midlands, ASH or CW Where exactly are you, it is not a complex job and I am sure with some pics from guys on here the slider is something you could do yourself Based in Rugby, Warwickshire. My local mechanic seems to think it sounds like the brake but the quickest he can get it booked in is next Saturday which isn't ideal. Trev What about Silverstone garage, not too far away and will have the parts (second hand as well if a disc is required on a budget)

TrevS
Its booked it at a local garage tomorrow to hopefully work out whats wrong. Can I ask how much a new front Jspec caliper would be?
trebor69
I wouldn't worry too much about the caliper , all will be well with a good clean and at worst .... new seals and bleeding , very common fault on all cars , just needs stripping down . prob not been copper slipped up for a while . formatzero
Hi Trevor if you got the car from jonathan then it,s my old supra and previously Dr blackman.I replaced rear discs and pads and had problem with front drivers side caliper after storage however the garage freed it off and it was fine after that, its not the end of the world to have to replace these things, after all they are old cars and you have to expect to replace a few things.Good luck with the car i loved having it. Yeah I totally understand that things like this go wrong. This is my third supra and generally the last 2 were great cars. Like I said overall I am very pleased with the car it would just have been nice to not have any issues so soon after buying the car. TrevS
Right. Just got off the phone from the garage. They say the piston has seized and and say the need to fix the piston and replace the discs and pads on the car. Total is £446.50. Sounds like a lot to me. Does anyone know anyone local that can do the job cheaper. Also the garage has offered to fit the parts if I get them so would that be better and if so which discs and pads should I get. Any help would be really appreciated as I am a bit gutted at the moment. Thanks Trevor

Just replace the piston, their under £15 each, i dont know how much j spec brakes are but uk discs are £75 each and pads for the front are approx £55 for both calipers

deathmonkey
It's slightly quicker than the standard silver. HTH No it's not! Besides, NA... sounds a lot like what happened to me, it was a siezed piston, i just changed the caliper and all was well. Like Marc said, he just changed the caliper... You said you could see there was plenty of life left etc, why can't you do this yourself? This forum has many traders, give them a call and see what they can do! They won't rip you off, give the best prices and look after your Supra. Don't scrimp on these. But you can get pistons for like £15, and discs for £75 ish, pads, I dunno... £60? Edit: Beaten to it. TrevS
Not trying to skrimp on the brakes but don't want to pay a garage too much if they are saying that the parts for the car are specialist because its an import. I've tried contacting Chris Wilson to see if he can help supply parts. Trev
JamieP
They quoted me £380+Vat for the whole job, does that sound right then? For New OEM disc's and pads including refurbing the calipers and fitting? sounds ok to me. Id not touch any ebay cr@p. Chris Wilson
Are they UK brakes, or Jap spec? I may have some good used calipers and good used discs if they are Jap spec. If UK spec buy new discs from Toyota, and maybe see if the caliper can be rebuilt? You aren't *THAT* far away from me in Warwickshire if you want me to do them. TrevS
Hi Chris, just sent you a PM. They are jspec brakes (2 piston). Is it likely this type of caliper can be saved rather than replaced or it it not worth it? The reason I ask is because the calipers are both painted and decalled so replacing one means recoating the calipers, another job I could do without. AlexM
Where in Warwickshire are you? Silverstone Garage won't be far away if you're looking for an alternative 'local' garage, they won't rip you off either.
nevins
they can be saved easy mate no need to replace them.
Dnk
I just spoke to my parts supplier and your looking around £150 discs for the pair £20 each for pistons £50 pads for both calipers £40 seal kit for both calipers Approx £260 in parts My local garage charges me £30 - £40 phr labour and has worked on my supra for 10 + years, im near Solihull if thats any use. I see around 2 hrs max on this job so your garage is little dear in my opinion You'll need some brake fluid as well but in my opinion i'd be checking all the outer seals on all the calipers and changing them as there the reason why your pistons have siezed. Also be a good idea to change the brake fluid if not done already
TrevS
Just spoke to Silverstone garage. They are a 40min drive away and are going to give me a quote. They said they would probably just stick a new piston on rather than save the old one. Would it be ok to drive the car there with the current brakes?
