SZR or GT4 which one

I'm applying for a new job and if I am successful I will lose my work van and will need a daily drive.

I'm thinking of a SZ-R Supra or a Celica GT4.

I have seen a couple at similar prices of £4500 but think the GT4 would be more fun.

Just wondering your thoughts on what you would go for.

Round trip journey would be about 60 miles and mostly dual carriageway and motorway.

Thanks

I had this decision to make,

I went for the Supra, mainly because i think they look a lot better, they can be improved upon hugely performance wise (swap to tt or na turbo kit) and the SZ is good for my insurance whilst im young.

There will be no engine mods done, I have a TT6 waiting to go through a single conversion.

Please join the owners club and do some reading on the gt4's if you do go for one. If you have suspension knocking noises you can be looking upto £1k per corner to sort. The engines are not that strong and have a habbit of dropping ringlands on piston 3. There are ALOT of hugely over priced dogs of gt4's on the market so be careful.

I did like my gt4 and it had alot of work done to it but they are quite guttless after about half way through 3rd gear and that was running approx 340bhp when i sold it.

Amazing grip in the snow and wet and fun.

It seemed to have character which most toyotas seem to lack or just seemed like it with the amount of time and money i spent on it.

It isn't? I drive mine every day.

I am sure you're the exception to the rule though, most people couldn't afford the running costs and maintenance. That's especially true with J spec cars, which are far more common. Some people drive Ferraris to work every day, but only some :)

i went from a ST185 GT4 for a supe SZ. for me, i miss the power/pull of the turbo engine through the rev range that the GT4 has, but the supe has a diff delivery of power at the other end that kicks in at 5k+ rpm. for that reason to me the GT4 felt faster, but in saying that i drive an auto SZ. as for comfort i have to pick the Supe, its got such a great cockpit driving position. but what with the bad weather we had over xmas, i found the supe was all over the place. the GT4 on the other hand was much more controllable in those conditions. i love both cars, for different reasons. since you have a supe already i would say go for the GT4! ive also noticed that i used to get around 25mpg in the GT4 and now in the supe i get about 23-24mpg so pretty much the same in terms of fuel economy.

In all fairness the SZ is a very very refined cruiser. Its comfortable and looks great. I sold my Sup but I got a ST205 GT4. It's not like the Supra but I am really loving the 4WD action. Since you do mostly motorways I would say Supra but..... you've already got sup in the pipes so GT4?

since you already have a performance car can I suggest a diesel auto for your daily driver?

Think of all the money you will save

This is what i'd do :) or if you must have something performance related then integra type r, soarer, 200sx,bmw 530d,audi a4,s3 might be some other options etc

Very true, but the chap might be happy to shell out on two petrol guzzlers.

I find having my Alan more than just useful to leave in the public car park.

Like last night, I went to pick up the bike I'd bought my girlfriend. It fitted perfectly in large boot with the rears folded down, and when one of the pedals got caught on the interior trim and left a mark I couldn't have cared less.

I would be upset though with the same happening to my daily celica.
