Neil-NA
Help me guys (n gals) Now i'm not one for being a pussy but i really need help getting back to the gym. I have become so lazy its unreal, apart from walking the dog for 30 mins twice a day i do fook all else, my diet is crap and i feel like death. I started to go to Total Fitness may 08 and went 3-4 times a week, i could never go for more than 6 weeks to 3 months at a time as i just lost interest however i did put on more than 2 stone in the 1 year i was there so i was quite happy. I had a bit of a shoulder injury due to poor technique around last april but it healed quick. In June i took the decision to change gyms to David Lloyd and since then i have been 3 times. I train alone and need some good motivation to get back there if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.

Stratty
What exactly do you want to know? I am a PT and can always help with routines/nutrition if required.
miko_supra
You need to find someone to go to the gym with you, keeps you better motivated and you find yourself competing sometimes (making you run that further mile or push out that extra rep)
Mike
I train on my todd too I just keep a well stocked mp3 player To be honest I like having a bit of time to just be on my own and not have to speak to people for a bit... the anti-social git I am! My job is quite full on, so it's 'wind down' time for me.. I basically do quite long runs to try and leave the stresses of the day at the office before I get home. The Raven
Training alone is very hard. Best get someone to go with you. That way you have to go.

My mates all used to be members of the same gym but they're not very into and and quit. Have lost a stone and a half since i've not been going. I'm completely the same Mike, I just stack the iPod with some toonage, and I'm absolutely fine. I like being able to wind down after the day etc. I see mates down the gym all the time, but we all seem to just do our own thing. I don't mind going with someone else from time to time, but I do prefer to go alone. Then again, I tend to go very late - when I do sole cardio days, I go in at like 10:30pm-11pm and don't come out til before 1. Then weights days I'll be there a similiar time, but I'll go for a little run around lunchtime - which is what I'm doing today. When I lived in Swindon, they had a 24hr gym, that was very good, because of the 24hr nature of the gym, you found everyone spread out amongst the day, it was never busy when I was there, save for lunchtimes. Stonkin
The gym can be very hard to keep motivation going. I always used to train on my own, i prefered it that way. If your reliant on going with a training partner, what if they decide they cant be bothered one day, most likely you wont go either. The only way you will get motivation to go, quite simply is just to go! You feel better after just one session, well i do anyway, and that makes me want top go again. I have good times and bad times with it to, but generally quite strict at going. Since ive moved house over to Guildford, i live with someone who is serious about training to and its definetly changed my workouts as you have someone there to spot you when you need it, allowing you to go that bit further than you normally might do. Best thing to do mate is just get your head focused on it, write yourself a program that you can stick to so you can see what areas you gain in, try to eat good food etc Geo will be great at helping you sort out any of the above if you drop him a pm im sure. I had a break for about 6-8 weeks before xmas as i was either ill or too busy but since jan i have been at it really hard about 6 times a week, i cant wait for my day to finish to get back down there. Summer wont be far off mate, get yourself looking and feeling good
Guest samurai infidel
i agree with what the others have said, load up some tunage on your ipod, always helps me. i train alone every other day,i use a programe called P90X, which gives you all the exercises and nutrition info ..google it,and if you are interested, ill put it on a disk and send it to you.. Neil-NA
I prefer to train alone as all my mates are gay lazy ass faggots and i push myself more when im alone, i also train 1st thing in the morning before work. What exactly do you want to know? I am a PT and can always help with routines/nutrition if required. I want to know everything lol I suppose i need to know about routines as i'm somewhat confused these days. I used to do a day of chest, triceps and shoulders. Then a day of back and biceps, that's it no other body part. I tried a full body workout for a few weeks but i just felt it didn't work. My body is really out of balance, i have a real strong back and weak chest/triceps (60kg for 8 reps max) i'm still looking to put weight on till i look healthier and don't have ribs and shoulder bones poking out, i'm 6'3" and 15.5 stone if that gives a rough idea of where i'm at. Should mention im an insulin dependant diabetic.
ilicos
http://www.youtube.com/user/ScottHermanFitness Motivation is a difficult one. The best advice I can give you there is to try to visualise the benefit of training and set some goals that you can monitor on a weekly basis. Ideally though, a gym buddy/spot is the best choice. I have attached a link to Scott Herman fitness on youtube. He is an annoying yanker sometimes but his tips and techniques are very good! CardiffSupra
Do you enjoy going? If not don't bother. I quit the gym and started doing boxing, I found it 100 times more enjoyable. I've just started doing Kyokushin it's fantastic I can't wait for the next training day.

Matt H
I found that if you go with a mate you end up going. Also, once you're in the gym, you'll push each other a bit more. Only thing is, it always takes long when you're with someone else with all the chatting etc I've built a gym in my garage now and one of my mates comes round twice a week. I've found that, as we've been doing it for a while, that I get more done on my own now. I'd still prefer to have him there as we have a laugh mind and it's more enjoyabe. I'd certainly recommend going with someone to get back into it though, if not to make sure you go.
