a98pmalcolm
Hay all. I just finished watching quite a good film called Sunshine. Its a bout some people that go into space to reactivate the sun. But somthing in the film confussed me a bit Who the hell was the messed up looking guy that randomly apperared from no were killing the crew? I can only prosume he came off the old ship as he said he has been talking to god for 7 years, and the space ship they came accross that failed the mission in the past was there in space for 7 years? Just need a lil explanation on how he got on the ship? was he a crew member from the ship? ahhhhhhh WTF lol Let me know Thanks Paul
SupraGirlie
Yep, that was a crap film indeed.
Harris25
watched "the hurt locker" the other day. what a film! everyone must watch it!
miko_supra
I really enjoyed that film. From what I remember that guy was from the 1st ship they sent out which ceased contact. He went mad and killed all of his crew then spent 7 years sunbathing till the 2nd ship appeared.
TTRickeh
Yeah I thought Sunshine was alright until that weird guy popped up and as you said just started killing people. Bit tacky how they made the camera go all funny when he was in shot as if he was some sort of demon too. But yeah I think he was supposed to be on the old ship and managed to make his way onto the new one, I forget how.
Abz
I really enjoyed that film. From what I remember that guy was from the 1st ship they sent out which ceased contact. He went mad and killed all of his crew then spent 7 years sunbathing till the 2nd ship appeared. This is really bizarre, I rented it on LoveFilm.com & watched it over the weekend! Just as Miko explained, he was off the 1st ship though not sure he killed the rest of the crew as they seemed all huddled up & burnt out together. He survived but kinda sun bathed so then his body was use to the heat. The only bit I don't get is how he managed to gain so much strength as when he was beating that guy up he held him by his throat & off the floor! An not like he was a small guy either. Thought it was quick a decent film

pistonbroke
Best thing about that film is the music they used in the trailer.
j_jza80
Best thing about that film is the music they used in the trailer. I like that too. Not a bad film IMO, although clearly influenced (in the crazy killing sunbather dude respect) and not as good as Event Horizon.
SupraStar 3000
Sounds like event horizon. Now that was a good film. Pretty creepy too. Like Hellraiser in space.

Bit tacky how they made the camera go all funny when he was in shot as if he was some sort of demon too. But yeah I think he was supposed to be on the old ship and managed to make his way onto the new one, I forget how. When they found the second ship they docked with it and had a little look around. Whilst they were doing that, he must have swapped onto the new ship. There wasn't any explanation of where the old captain got his superhuman strength from, without putting too much thought into it, I'm going to assume it was down to the strange gravitational fields in the sun. Strange how the gravitational fields prevented them from sending transmissions home, but still allowed them to communicate from their space-suits to the space ship though... (it's just a film). I found the story as a whole quite good, but it was just a little dis-jointed. There was a lot of "why didn't they just do this instead?". a98pmalcolm
Watch Sunshine last night, I enjoyed it. Cillian Murphy creeps me out a bit though. haha i know what u mean about that! lol played a good FBI agent though. Yer i think that the only way! Most probley as he was captin of the old ship and lost the plot a bit! like the captin on the new one did! I thought the rest of the crew commited suacide but he could have killed them by locking them in that room! or.....he survived after being in that room when the rest died!!! Dont u think Cillian Murphy looks just like Tyson Ritter from All American Rejects lol
Mike
I like that too. Not a bad film IMO, although clearly influenced (in the crazy killing sunbather dude respect) and not as good as Event Horizon. All that I watched both of them recently.. Sunshine looks amazing in HD, but Event Horizon, for the fantastically cheesy ending(!) was the better movie I think. Both worth a look
martini
Sunshine has great cinematics and tries to be a good film. It's a shame it turned into a slasher at the end. I felt a bit cheated by that. I was hoping for more suspense and more science. I think they decided to try to get some money out of it and ended up selling out a little. I still enjoy to watch it though as it raises some interesting questions (and looks amazing).

martini
He got over via the airlock when they docked, and blew the airlock so they couldnt redock hence the little spacejump thing they had to do Where they unrealistically "freeze". I say unrealistic due to Kinetic Theory.
Ric
i cant be arsed to read all that, i just though they froze cus it was -260oc or somthing
Rob
They also tested this on Mythbusters with pigs head, and could not achieve a "shattering glass" effect. Although they weren't quite at absolute zero, but then I doubt the dark space behind the shield in Sunshine would be at absolute zero also. martini
i cant be arsed to read all that, i just though they froze cus it was -260oc or somthing OK, in short, they wouldn't freeze because space is a vacuum. Temperature comes from molecules (such as those of a gas) hitting you and each other. Temperature increases with the more energy a gas has. The gas in space has little to no energy, but because the particles are so few and far between, it would take weeks to freeze as you'd rarely get hit by the cold little buggers. Rob
One question, and I may be talking bollocks here, but when I pick up successive bits of toast I can only go so far before my fingers start to burn, as the heat cannot "escape" fast enough every time I pick up a slice from the toaster so it builds up. Transferring my pseudo toaster science into the realms of space travel, the shield reflects and aborbs energy from the sun but it can't "release" that energy into the surrounding space, either for the reasons above or because the surrounding space is the same temperature as the shield. Shouldn't it just burn up, or are they using that same Unobtanium as was used in The Core?
martini
One question, and I may be talking bollocks here, but when I pick up successive bits of toast I can only go so far before my fingers start to burn, as the heat cannot "escape" fast enough every time I pick up a slice from the toaster so it builds up. The difference is the type of energy. The toast feels hot to you due to the collision of molecules, whereas the Sun transmits energy not via molecule collisions, but as electromagnetic radiation; this is why is it colder at the top of everest even though it is "closer to the Sun" than say, Ethiopia) i.e. fewer molecules and thus fewer collisions at Everest than lower down the atmosphere (although obviously there are other factors such as position on the globe and wind patterns but that's for somewhere else!). Providing the space craft were designed to reflect enough radiation, it would not build up in the materials as molecules with a high enough collision rate to melt it or burn it up (though burning is not really possible without oxygen). The-Plethora
I quite liked the film, some amazing special effects and the end bit with the final detonation of their bomb both sound and visuals are memorable. The slasher stuff was a bit crappy and the people playing the crew were a little bit 'young Hollywood' for my liking but its still a good film. RedM
So all the killing was the fault of the sunshine then! Or was it actually the boogie?
