hi i have a 96 saxo 1.4i ive had it for 3 years and its always started first turn of the key ,with the recent freezing weather i havent used it ,but went to start it up wouldnt start checked the water pipes and they where frozen[not enough anti freeze] so left it till it defrosted about a week ,went out to start it and it wont go ,i can hear the fuel pump, and ive put new plugs checked all the connections and cleaned all the multiplugs in the engine bay ,when i changed the plugs i pushed a rag in the hole and it was wet with petrol .and im getting a spark ,took off the filter and turned it over and it was spitting out of the throttle body.it turns over ok but wont fire. can someone put up a diagram of the order the leads go on the coil pack and plugs.

mine are as follows

looking at the coil pack from the front

rear right to far left plug call that no 1 nearest cam belt

rear left to no 3 plug

front right to no 2 plug

front left to no 4

are there any vac pipes i should check ??can only find 2

it sounds when im turning it over like theres no fuel there is or no spark

thanks for the help in advance--- dave

Common problem with them is the engine control relay. its located under the ecu panel. reach under and give it a tap as this normally works. There are a few types so if you want to try swapping it to test it take the old relay with you to a scrappy and compare them.

Iv had a few with crank shaft sensor being faulty but that is rare.

Also the two big round multiplugs on the passenger side chassis leg(if my memory serves me right) they are bad for condensation in them which can prevent the car for starting.Seperate the plugs and clean the connectors up. The wee red button at the back of the engine bay can also stop it from starting, make sure the plug is on properly and the centre of the button is pushed in the down position. I had a 106 a few years back and had the same problem now and again.

My 106 broke down and wouldnt start one time, i called my mate who is a mechanic/recovery driver and he sorted the plugs out and it started no bother. He said he had a few call outs with 106 and saxos with the same bother and it seemed to work. Dont you just love french cars! Never again!

the plugs are located near the battery under the light mate. depending on model it will have 1 or 2. mine had one and it just unscrews. Can you hear the fuel pump kick in when you turn the ignition on. If you can't its more than likely the relay, the other symptom of this is cutting out while driving and not re starting till a time later.

ok update when it was freezing cold i started the car or tried then i noticed the water pipes were frozen so i left it then it would not start hence thread .

the water pump was frozen solid when i turned it over it took 3 theeth off the cam belt and fooked the pump, so its just cost me 140 quid to get it going. box of matches would have been cheaper
