max21
Hi Ian, I have had this problem looked at by an Auto-sparky and he says the alternator is faulty hence the reason I don't get any management lights as there is "continuity between the alternator and the battery" [not that I know whnat this means]. Please can you tell me what exactly I am looking for around the picture, i.e. if the cable is still attached, is this a good sign, or better still what is the bad sign I am looking for. and if I need to get a replacement alternator or a cable, do you know where I can get one without being robbed? Thanks for your help. Regards, Found a pic. I've arrowed in yellow where the strap attaches. Should be fairly reachable. It's probably a good idea not to let it touch any metal or bodywork or anything -Ian
D8MOA
when you charged the battery you didnt charge it backwards did you? i once brought a rover (dont laugh) and the owner gave me a battery he had charged but every time i put the battery on it would spark and the cables would get hot... i then put on a battery i had and all was fine!! i only assumed it was a duff battery or he had charged it the wrong way round from dead flat (dont no if that can actually be done or not as never tried)
