Hi All !

Been doing a bit of DIY:( lately ,got to fit a new bathroom suite, new ceiling with spots (mrs ) and get a new shower !

I have currently got a electric shower due to it being installed when i had the old backboiler, when i moved in the house.

now having a combi i hear that the power shower is the one needed (perfered)

Asked a few people about makes of showers, Mira & Aqualisa have cropped up, but today someone mentioned a german (i know) manufacturer " Grohe " anybody here have one or heard about these, as i intend to buy one in the next few weeks ! :search:

Steer as far away from aqualisa, gainsborough and the other budget makes as you can. We use very similar valves to grohe.

When you say power shower i think you mean a mixer shower(nice shiny chrome type thing on wall) as power showers generally have a power supply to them to run the pump/s and look similar to electric showers.

I work for triton showers btw so if you see any stuff you like ask me and i will let you know if its any good.

Check your boiler can handle to shower aswel as alot mixers are demanding, flow l/pm @ x.00 bar/psi etc etc.

Aqualisa is hardly a budget brand. No offence edge but Triton are regarded in the industry as a budget brand, having sold merchants out years ago to sell cheap product through the likes of Argos.

Personally i'd go with an Aqualisa "Aquavalve" or "Aquarian" on a combi boiler, as they are some of the better performing valves, especially when used with thier "Varispray" shower kits. The only downside is the valve inside can go anywhere within 3 to 15 years, depending on the lime content of the water.

Mira are a similar product, which probably dont work quite as well as the Aqualisa products but are probably a little more reliable.

I'd probably avoid Grohe personally as thier spares service and availability is sh*te compared to most. Hansgrohe products are better quality and thier spares service is excellent.

All depends on your budget really. If you have the money, the Aqualisa digital showers are excellent.

PM me with some more specific information (budget, mounting wall etc) if you want a more accurate recommendation. I finished working in the industry recently but i've specified most of the branded showers on the market at one point or another.

No offence taken bud.

I've worked on most makes of showers and now just work for triton as an engineer.

If you have access to failure rates you will find aqualisa are struggling with the digital range and are not up the top with us on the good side.

Triton do sell budget showers from as little as £45 but we go all the way upto £1k so we do all areas.

I'd recommend stay with a uk based company as servicing and warranty repair will be easier.

I work for a Housing Association in the maintenance dept and we fit Mira showers as standard in all of our properties.

Mira Sport is a good basic shower and shouldn't give you any problems. The Mira Advance has a few extra's that the Sport doesn't....depends what budget you have.

EDIT: These are electric showers. In the rare times we replace a mixer it's usually a Triton but they're not the best in my experience.

Had an Aqualisa here for about 8 yrs, great bit of kit, NOT budget IMO.

What I would say is choose the correct pump, don't mess around and go straight for a Stuart Turner pump as they are superb.

We had several other makes and had nothing but problems with them, Stuart Turner was mentioned by a plumber mate so we fitted one and haven't looked back.

No pump required/can be fitted as on a combi system.
