pezzler
Just thought i'd air the something that has wound me up all day Im so annoyed with this countrys justice system; couldn't believe what i was hearing in the radio today. Them two little sh*ts that tortured them two defenseless little boys, have been charged and sentenced to 5 years It feels very Jamie Bulger to me, the only exception being that they didn't go all the way as one of the boys escaped, and the other was booted down a hill into some bushes and they didnt see where he went Just cannot believe that they only got 5 years for ruining the lives of two harmless children, and leaving a dark cloud over their parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters etc Was nearly welling up when they were reading out what these two sick little f**ks did to these boys - cutting them, beating them with sticks and bricks, making them eat nettles, and i heard rumours of rape What has our country come to? I remember not too far back, a woman in my town got 18 months for not making sure her daughter went to school - some guy got 2 years for doing 180mph on a motorbike. But 5 years for torture and attempted murder? just doesn't add up seems you can get away with murder lately - bring back executions
JustGav
I take it you missed the complete story..... There was another child the week before. They were each sentenced to 30 months' detention after they admitted causing another 11-year-old actual bodily harm a week before the young boys were attacked. Charlotte
They didn't get 5 years. They got an indefinite sentence with a minimum of five years.
ivan
Which effectively means they'll be out in 5 years...
Charlotte
Which effectively means they'll be out in 5 years... I think in this particular case it won't. Perhaps if it was burglary or something similar.
TonyP
Which effectively means they'll be out in 5 years... They should have got way more than that. In fact life would be good. Why spend tens of thousands of pounds trying to rehabilitate them? They're a lost cause throw away the key!
JustGav
Does anybody know how the law works, as I was under the impression that if their crime is serious enough that the time carries them out of being a minor they get tried as adults? However in their cases, they will be 16, so in theory would end up with changed identities and a new life, much like the Jamie Bulger twosome. (I suspect anyway)
Abz
They will do around 7 years & then will be out on a tag no doubt. We are still having issues with the prison's being over crowed so that means they will have to share their PS3's which is a health & safety hazard. This puts pressure on the people running the justice system & prison officials to try & ease this "over crowding". The justice system is one of the most stupidest to date, like these sentences we also have random people who enter your property while your on holiday & you have to wait to get a court order to get them out of your own home! They should make prisoners work for their money, prison should not cost the government anything! In fact we should be getting revenue from it! Prison should be a place of punishment not a chill out place. Sorry rant over

I know that they said a minimum of 5 years, but if its an indefinite sentence why does it have to have a minimum? A minimum term gives the impression that they will be released sooner rather than later Actually, I do hope they get out early and I hope the government sorts them out with new identites and well paid jobs, then ships them off to a country with beautiful climate and warm friendly people

Abz
But, but chain gangs are against human rights.... Damn human rights! I propose burning lifers (where there's no chance of them being innocent of the crime) to provide free heating for the elderlu at winter Why don't the government just build more prisons? It would get and keep scum like this off the streets and create jobs. Because this will cost us a lot of money, from when I read a news article a couple of years back I remember stating that it costs roughly £40,000 a year on average for each prisoner! That is a lot more than the national average wage! Drug rehabilitation costs us a lot more, we are talking in the millions spent each year on getting a prisoner a fix! They should be chucked in & have to go cold turkey.

Paul
Well said Paul, bloody well said! Also bear in mind that years ago we had discipline from school too, even if parents were crap then at least some form of punishment was there for 50% of a childs growing up but the fooking lefties saw to finishing that

Bring back the canes! Nowadays, kids start punching teachers & get away with it as they say they have some sort of disorder which now makes 50% of the class pupils behave like this. Growing up we had the odd few naughty children but that was it.

ivan
Slightly off topic, but I noticed on holiday in the Canaries last week that there seemed to be a lot of fairly hot women in dayglo vests doing jobs like road sweeping, tree pruning etc. whereas we tend to get nothing but old men doing the same... Then I found out that under Spanish rules, if you want to claim social benefits you have to work for them. Way to go!
pezzler
Sounds a bit like "There are no bad dogs, only bad owners"... however, a dog will still be destroyed when someone gets attacked These boys are animals, age isn't even an issue with cases like this - if it wasn't for their age, the situation at home wouldn't even be an issue for debate. Fred and Rose West had bad childhoods but im pretty sure no one cares as they were adults when they commited their crimes. What i'm trying to say is, if these boys were in their 30's, I dont think anyone would be mentioning that they had a difficult childhood They are now damaged goods; 5, 10, 15 years in prison will not rehabilitate what has already been programmed into their heads. they wont forget their childhoods, they wont forget what they have done, they wont forget the sick thoughts that they must have had. Can someone who does this kind of thing be rehabilitated? And Who's to say what they'll do when they do eventually get out of prison? Would anyone here like them to be moved in next to you? I highly doubt it, so what do you do with people like this? lock them up for the rest of their lives at a cost of £20-£40k a year? Let them serve a little time, give them a slap on the wrist and let them back into society? have them exectuted?

My view has always been that teachers are secondary parents, they provide the education and discipline, they do after all spend as much time with them as most parents do. The odd caning never did me any harm I feel (apart from ego in front of the other kids), I'm certainly not a violent individual because of it. wooa there fella, i could just about 100% guarantee if any normal decent parents had brought these two boys up this story would never have happened, to me the real guilty parties here are not the boys but their pathetic miserable excuse for parents, the mother should be sterilised and the father castrated My mother is in the education sector (used to be a teacher and now deals with schools on special measures) and she is faced with this dilemma very often where she has more problems with the parents than the children.
