As the title says really, The last couple of times i have been to the dentist they reccommended that i have my wisdom teeth removed, Especially as they give me alot of pain. The pain normally comes and goes, However this time it seems to be constant, So i think i'm going to make an appointment to have them removed. Just wondered who else has had it done?

My dentist is younger than me (im 26) and she is gorgeous, that did help allot. "just stare up into my eyes sir" ..... "um... OK!"... i digress

Make sure your dentist uses loads of anaesthetic. I had a shot in the roof of my mouth (wow that one made my eyes roll) but apart from that, I didnt really feel a thing.

dentist did all 4 of mine...the upper ones we totally uncomplicated and popped right out. The bottom ones seend to sit a little more tight, but came out eventually. had a bit of issues afterwards with the empty holes and dirt getting into the causing infection, but common for all 4 was that it was quite pain free...

so go get em, it's a huge relieve to get them out

Depends how easy they are to get to. Mine are going to have to be a 'through the cheek' job so I'll have to go to hospital. :(

you may have to go to hospital but they will cut the GUM before they go through your cheek mate.

Then they just drill them and snap them out, thats how they did mine :)

I had the bottom one out on one side and wished id had both :(

you need to get them out before they become impacted if your in constant pain now then it may be too late.

If they are imacted its a hospital trip as the detist wont do them.

The dentist suggested he would do them but this was years ago and i have just been putting up with it, Fed up with the putting up with now.

I had mine done in hospital and it wasn't too bad.

I had some pretty good bruises afterwards but the drugs kept me smacked off my eyeballs for a while so couldn't really feel anything.

It's not nice when bits of tooth work their way through a couple of weeks later and you have to start spitting them out.

Yes and no. Depends on how the roots of the teeth are embedded into your gums.

In my case my wisdom teeth have the roots in a helical shape which means they can not simply be pulled out.

My dentist, when I was about 20 years old, got one of my wisdom teeth out and it took him over 1.5 hours!

He said later that on hindsight I should have gone to hospital for an official operation.

The top of the tooth snapped off and my gum had to be cut open and all 4 roots removed separately.

He had administered the full legal amount of anesthetic over the course of the 1.5 hours and had to be quick before it wore off.

Not something I want to do again unless totally necessary.

Fortunately the other teeth have not caused me any problems. The nerves in the jaw have migrated away from the teeth roots.

Dentists are no longer allowed to give a general anaesthetic, are they? The health risk from local anaesthetics will be lower than a general, so if he feels he can pull `em, and you aren't squeamish, I'd go to the dentist. I was in hospital years ago with a collapsed lung, and they were short of ward space, so we were a mottley crew in one side ward. A fit middle aged man came in for an overnighter, having his wisdom teeth out one day, back home the next. He went out in a box, not wanting to worry you. Given a choice of our NHS and Dr Umbola Gheretugilo, or Mr Jones the dentist, I am pretty sure where I'd be picking.
