iPod 5th Gen & iPhone 3G S

Hoping someone here can help with a couple of things about both...

The iPod is quiet even at full volume, from what I have found it’s only the EU ones that are quieter and that the earlier versions can be hacked to make them louder. I haven’t found anywhere that can do the 5th Gen Nano, does anyone know of a way to do this? Some tunes are quiet and just aren’t loud enough when I'm cycling to work with the road and wind noise interfering.

The iPhone I need to unlock so it will accept a Vodafone SIM card, I think it is locked to O2. I’ve searched and pretty much everything I can find contradicts the next site. I don’t care for jail breaking it, I just want to use my current contract in it – does anyone know if this is possible or have any experience in doing it?

To use another sim in it you have to jailbreak it then useblacksnow to unlock it. Im vodafone and had to do this to use my sim in it.

cheers for the quick reply!

Was that before Voda started selling it as well?

If you don't mind me asking what did you use to jail break it? I dont want to get ripped off on some fake website

Vodafone dont do a pay as you go iphone :( and i already had a contract SIM.

So i bought 02....for two reasons.

1. I can just go buy it...

2. I can just do this...but im impatient, but by sounds of it as you want to do it properly.http://shop.o2.co.uk/update/unlockmyiphone.html

You can call me god for the above link :D

You could always jailbreak it till 02 finally unlock it for you.

website http://www.blackra1n.com/ for unlocking software takes 30seconds...very quick and easy.

Once installed run blackrain and install cydia for apps and run blacksnow to unlock.

If its a new model means you will have tethered jailbreak so to turn it on must be connected to PC and use blackra1n to turn it back on by rerunning the program....my Girlfriends battery hasnt gone dead once so if shes doing ok with it you will :D

I've bought 2 iPhone 3GS' on O2 Pay as you go.

To unlock them I can either

- use the pay as you go sim and get charged £15 (You lose your 12 months free web and wifi but shouldn't matter because you want to put another sim in it)

- I activated with O2 contract sims and filled the unlock form with those details

I've always thought of you as a Godly figure ;)

I'm not going to wait that long to get it unlocked, you think O2 can do it at the store? I only got it today so it should be a new version, the tethering bit sounds scary... Right, Blackra1n downloaded - is it really as simple as clicking 'make it rain' ?

I have an O2 contract still running but it is not as good as my Voda plan and they charge an arm and a leg for data

I activated phone first with 02 simcard itunes....and yes I just then made it rain :D

I asked at carphone warehouse and they weren't even aware 02 were doing it now. So i wouldnt hold your breath...

also good news is about blackra1n...itunes will see it as its corrupt and in recovery mode, so if you wanted to unjailbreak it and flash back...itunes will fix it for you :D

So it has to be activated first? I may be brave and give it a go tonight...

AFAIK, to make the ipod louder you need to go into the settings, and In there you should find an option to increase the sound level. Don't have mine to hand at the moment so can't give a step by step, sorry.

HTH.

I found that setting and its up to max :( Aparently the EU iPods are quieter because of French law saying it cant be over a certain volume - can I argue it breaches my human rights to listen to music at a level I deem appropriate? :D

I activated my iphone first on the 02 sim, then jailbreaked....

Its not really brave...make sure you have connected your phone up to PC least once so drivers installed....next time shut itunes, run blackra1n...click 1 button lol :D

Then ull have a blackrain app, choose to install cydia and blacksnow (will need a wifi access point) ....run blacksnowand voila!

If you have an O2 contract running then activate it with that sim, fill in the unlock form and it takes a few days to have it officially unlocked.

Once done put in the vodafone sim and your good to go.

I'm not sure that jail breaking the phones now is as advantageous as it used to be.

I think that is the route I am going to take, I just read the O2 link from WSB again and its free on contract to unlock so why not

Cheers for your input as well

For your 5th gen iPod I take it you don't have volume check enabled in the settings which will limit the volume to 60% of max ?

Also you could have sound check enabled on iTunes, which will set a volume limit on all music potentially.

I know both can do that, can't give you complete directions to check both as don't have my iPod or mac on me :) if you're stuck let me know and I'll try and check tomorrow

Have checked these too, all are maxed :( If you go to the info of each tune you can adjust the volume in there by +/- 100% but this does nothing for the iPod either, I hate the EU rules sometimes

Ok and I assume if you play the same track through the same earphones/hifi/speakers etc on your iPhone they're fine?

I hate to ask, but have you check it's not the speaker jack making a bad connection, the wiring being crap or you having a bit of fluff in the 3.5mm jack port?
