jevansio
Ian you have totally missed the point of my post. I was going to let this lie but seeing as I am pissed that isn't going to happen. 1) Your idle was too high 2) The throttle wasn't closing properly, it wasn't hitting the stop That's a good start, you've diagnosed your high idle, it's air coming past the throttle butterfly. Do you understand what I have been through this last year? My car fucked a turbo over. My car was idling fine before that. I removed the turbo (and manifold) and fitted a new turbo. 8 months later I fire the car up. It's idling @ 2k. I havn't touched the map or idle settings. So what would you do, investigate? yes that's what I did. & Low and behold the throttle was about 0.5mm from the stop. So I pushed it that 0.5mm back & it helped. So it WASN'T hitting the stop before & it WASN'T hitting the stop after. I looked in the map. The ECU was driving the ICV at 40% just to maintain 1k idle. There was no way the throttle was going to meet the stop, I lubricated it, nothing, so now I'm stuck with a throttle which doesn't meet the stop (yet it idled fine befoe the turbo swap) So what would you do? Yes I wouund the stop to meet the throttle. It was about a turn away, but it meant that the throttle stopped shut perfect everytime. If you believe you need to make the "big eyes" smilie once again I am willing to argue this point either in person or on the phone. Once again my butteryfly has "NEVER" slammed back onto the stop. So I am in the situation where idle solenoid is driven at 40% and the "stop" on the throttle is prettty much at throttle closed. You think that is a good setup? You think you should have the butteryfly valve almost closed & drive the ICV @ 50% to achive idle? How the hell you think me opening the minimum throttle & reducig the ICV duty so stablise idle is a bodge is beyond me. Right onto the sticky open throttle, you thinkg I should investigate my slightly sticky open throttle. I am. I have let other people work on my car & this is why I am in this mess. I have lived with people trying to solve my shit idle since going single. I have a look & notice the throttle has NEVER hit the stop and adjust according & you call me the "bodger". There is no way my throttle would have hit the throttle stop where it was. No amount of lubricant was going to make it slam back any further. I don't want to bring any names into this but quickly opening the throttle has never been great on my car. I have had people look at at. I have monitored AFRs. I have changed the fuel celll around the affected cellls. NOTHING made any difference. Making the throttle open to control the base idle & lettig the ICV control any extra did. Apparently all the guys at work knew that "and they're fucking computer programmers" So please wind your fucking neck in on what is & isn't a bodge on my car!! Ian C
Right sunshine, I don't appreciate you having a rant at me when I'm trying to help you out. If you miss out a raft of pertinent information and detail then it's no good having a go when someone doesn't take that into account due to their lack of psychic abilities. If you are saying that the throttle stop was always in the wrong place and the car had been mapped around that when it was modified, then of course reverting the stop screw back and remapping the idle will fix it. However, I didn't know that, there is no reason I should have known that, you didn't mention that at the start of this, so I could only go on what I read. I even asked "Have I got this right?" because I couldn't quite believe what I was reading would be true from someone like yourself. So you could have simply said "You've got the wrong end of the stick" and not in fact hammered out a ranty diatribe. If I read what sounds like a bodge, I'll bring someone up on it even if it causes toys-out-of-the-pram moments like this. I do this for two reasons - one, I don't like bodges. Two, if people search this site in the future I've got a responsibility as tech mod to challenge misinformation, dodgy practices, and plain old uninformed bullshit. That way people in the future aren't led astray by mistakes in the past. Turbofit, FSE valves, Bijal's engine builds, earthing kits, the list goes on... Having said all that, I'm glad you've achieved real progress with sorting out a long term issue I'm also still wary of that throttle body because I'm really not sure whats going on with it now, does it stick open a bit or not? Have you got the little dashpot thing that is suposed to cushion the snap shut effect? -Ian PS PPS ahem "just wanted to explain this, a) so proper techies can veryify my logic is correct" so you even asked for someone to comment on it, thank you. jevansio
Maybe I over reacted, I really can't be buggered with this thread anymore, the only thing I have to say is that one way you can guarantee to get my back up is to call me a bodger
