pistonbroke
I got to the test station late so they didn't have a chance to fit my second CAT, so no surprise that it failed on emissions.......it also failed on no front plate, apparently, it stuffed on top of the dash behind the window is not good enough I thought I might be able to sweet talk them round to passing it using a donor car, but nope, they wanted it done all legit. I've got to take it back in on Wednesday to have the CAT fitted in order to pass. I'll stick the front plate on with double sided tape, then hope it doesn't accidentally fall off as I drive away afterwards

TopgunTT
Thats not too bad, You should be happy with that. Mine has passed the last 3 years with no problems, As long as you look after them they will look after you . Anyway well done
Abz
Funny how such a clean car like yours Dan fails an MOT and we have rust bucket, brake failed, exhaust hanging off ones get away clean - Noticed a lot of MOT testers are being more strict these days though, mainly over the emission's! Didn't I read somewhere that if your car is an import you will not require the emission's. I know on cars before 1992 the cat is not required! Though remember reading from a post that without a cat you can get away with emission's due to it being an import? Oh mine passed last week with only an advisory on front right tyre which was eating quicker on the inside
dr_jekyll
they can do a non cat "smoke" test on imports but alot of them say if it was manifactured with cats origanly then it has the cat test , but i dont know for sure. as for the plate , fussy buggers
pistonbroke
Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised that all the other tests passed without issue. While underneath it, the tester asked me if I actually drive it anywhere There's no minor warnings to worry about and everything was tip top underneath, no play in any bushes, no leaks, brakes all good......supra all good. Just this pain in the ass CAT to put back in. I might have a go at doing it in my garage. The only thing stopping me is that the car is so low, that I can't get my trolly jack underneath it
AlexJames
.......it also failed on no front plate, apparently, it stuffed on top of the dash behind the window is not good enough Yeah, I mean, my breaks didn't work .... but I still thought it would pass..... jackso11
so if its an import there will not be an exact match, so you don't need CAT's. print that out and take it back with you.
dude
so if its an import there will not be an exact match, so you don't need CAT's. print that out and take it back with you. It still needs to pass the emission test which it will NOT do without cats. However I have never needed to put more than 1 cat on to pass a MOT, so yours must be running badly, ask them if you can bring it in and go straight on the test machine then take it for a good thrash and get it straight on the emission's machine it should sale thru but make sure you get it well hot the cats need to be up to temp to work at their best. Not mine mate, I have both CATS removed. It seems odd that they even bothered testing it, especially after I pointed to the second CAT sitting in the boot, it was obviously going to fail
dude
Sorry dude I misread that as you had 1 cat on and were needing to put the 2nd one on too.
garethr
It still needs to pass the emission test which it will NOT do without cats... The flowchart says that if it's a "vehicle first used between 1 August '92 and 31 July '95", and you cannot "find an exact match in the analyser database or the In-Service Emissions book", then you "carry out a non CAT test CO There would doubtless be a discussion about whether a UK Supra TT is an exact match for a JDM TT, though. Will a Supra pass a non-CAT test without cats? My Soarer does, easily.

garethr
But from memory they can find the match, we tried to get round that one on mine when I was a tester!!!! You were too quick with the quote! That's what I was wondering about. The note says "To find an exact match in the current emissions data book, you will need the make, model, and other data such as engine size, model code, engine code, VIN code, or serial number. If after normal cleaning and/or scraping processes a particular code is unreadable or inaccessible, carry on as if no exact match can be found. If the flow chart leads to a non catalyst test then carry out that test. If the flow chart leads to a catalyst test to default limits, then carry out that test, but use the less demanding of either the default limits or the specific limits for any vehicle which is an exact match in everything but an unreadable code.", which seems open to interpretation. Supra786
Seems like a lot of people going for their MOT's around now. Mine also failed yesterday because of no fog light, no front number plate, had it behind the windscreen on the dash, , also indicator light wasn't working properly and no rear number plate lamps. Got it al sorted though, made two holes and mounted the number plate with some cable ties on the front mesh of do-luck bumper, going back at 1pm today, to hopefully collect my certificate. pistonbroke
Well, she went back in yesterday, got the second CAT fitted, and stuck on the front plate with some double sided tape. 5 mins on the machine to warm the CAT and hey presto, within legal limit emmisions Get my certificate printed and promptly have the Decat pipe put back on. The guy who did the MOT was the fella that I bought my first red supra from ( see garage, now Mark Newmans car), so he's well into them. I had to explain to him the reasoning for decatting the car as he'd not heard of BPU before , then he asks "does it really make that much difference?"......"er, yeah" I replied. So, I stuck the boost controller on B setting for 0.9 bar boost (it was wet and I didn't want him bending it) and let him take it out. When we got back, he's decided to seriously consider another supra, he bought a Caterham 7 after selling his supe to me but after feeling BPU, he wants back in the game Good times

pistonbroke
Hello matey, sorry for not getting back to you yesterday. There's a girl at the reception of the garage who I was chatting to. She told me she wants a white integra with red interior and I thought of you. My car was ready before I had a chance to show her the pic. The garage is the Old Forge in Orpington High Street. Take the Teg down there and ask for Carly. She seemed really interested mate.
