fizzle
to cut a long story short, i'm thinkin of quitting my job, to start up on my own (landscaper). The contract i work on was taken over by another co. which we been tupe'd over to.. my position as senior foreman is no longer required so im back on the tools, the only reason i stayed and put up with the shit pay was because had a van to use as and when, inc weekends for private jobs (new vans trackered and no personal use allowed, no xtra income), i was at a good level with prospects (now just a team leader, prospects bleak) etc etc.. i feel this is a sign to go it alone.. i hate my job and spend all day thinkin of jackin it, workin muy nutt off for some dick in a suit. i have been planning to go solo for the last few years but have been sucked into the rutt and with economics being shit it didnt feel right. i have just done quite well on another business venture, so have about 5k spare and was going to get a TT lump dropped in my n/a and few other bits n peices but with the cash i could buy a van/tools and try make a go of it. i already have very good contacts and 1 days work a week guaranteed (regular client) most of the tools already so for minimal outlay i could be up and running.. if i get work 3 days a week i would be earning more than what i'm paid now.. plus would have at least 3k in the business account to start with to tide me over.. what do you guys think? Am i being stupid in this recession? TT and shit job or n/a and own business?

Guest daz 6576
buisiness comes before pleasure, think about it. if you start the buisiness and do well out of it you could forget the tt and make it single turbo which i did. and thats worth it

Ricky49
I agree with Jamie get some more contacts first and give it a go. As my old man keeps telling me you won't make any money working for someone.

MARTIN R
I would agree what the others have said and try and build up a number of contracts/ jobs in advance. I would go for it as you are surely better giving it a go than always wondering what if. Good luck:)
DSK
To be honest, you need to have some pleasure and wake up in the morning and 'want' to go to work with a smile. You want to leave satisfied etc. If you are thinking this and have been for sometime, have an alternative and are able to move on it, as you seem able to do it and are happy with the outlay..... go for it! I am also thinking of setting up another business abroad, running a business, in my experience is stressful at times but, I enjoy putting in the efforts and appreciate that the rewards are satisfying.
