Using auto like a manual?

My mate told me the other day that the Supra autos can be used similar to a manual, as in you can push the gearstick up to change up, and down to change down. Never having owned an auto car, or even driven one I could not comment, however I was under the impression that was like a 'dog leg' box, which are amazingly expensive, and would not expect to find one in a Supra!

Can someone explain to me how the auto box works, as I thought that you could only shift manually on a triptonic Supra??

Where are you in the Midlands? I can always show you. :)

I'm in Coseley, near to the BP garage and the McDonalds on the B'ham new rd.

There are plenty of autos about, just thinking it may be a viable option if I can get my head around it and feel comfortable using it.

i didnt use mine for a while. never realy saw the point of the manual mode. then i experimented a bit more. did a track day and it forced me to use it. i use it all the time when im out on my own. with anyone else in the car it makes the geer changes a bit more uncomfortable,

manu mode seems to make the car sound better too.
