Guest sodbuster
Ever since buying my 1995 N/A the speedo has always been about 10mph progressively fast. (30 displays about 40, 40 displays about 50 etc..) The car is fitted with a 112mph clock face and when taking it on a trackday last year it cut it's power at about 112mph, so i am guessing that the limiter is fitted correctly and working. I have read some threads which suggest that the needle can sometimes be replaced in the wrong position, after changing the clock face from kph to mph. My question is this.. Has the garage changed the clock face and not bothered converting the speedo, or is it just a case that they have chucked the needle on incorrectly, which means that it can be sorted with 2 spoons lifting it off and recalibrating it?! Look forward to your advice. Many thanks, Matt.
pistonbroke
The limiter is a factory fit on all J-specs, so it's not it's fitting thats in question, it's the fact that you haven't had it bypassed by a delimiter. If the garage you bought it from had de-limited it, with a proper speed convertor, there would have been no need to change the dial face to a 112mph clock. the limit in japan is 180kmh, so all they've done is stick a face on it for 112mph, which in my opinion is the cheap ass way of doing it. A proper speed convertor would have changed the reading for the speedo to MPH, so the existing km/h clock is reading in MPH. If I were you, I'd de-limit it properly with a thor speed convertor/de-limiter, then get some new dial faces in MPH from http://www.speedhut.net (make sure you say it's a RHD car). Once you have it all fitted, check your reading using a GPS. If it's still reading high, I would drive along with a GPS reading the speed with the needle removed, once I got to 20mph steady, I'd stick the needle back on.
